A few things I'd like to see change in Windows
There really is no good reason to not allow users running under restricted privlege to view the system clock and calendar in Windows XP.

In general, I think we need to get away from the IT mindset when it comes to our consumer operating systems like XP Home and Pro, etc. The average user just doesn't get Admin, Power User, etc. In fact, most users run as Admin since that is the default context. This is a security risk. C'mon.

Reboots after install/modification suck. End of story.

App hangs are still too frequent in XP. I have to have Task Manager running in my tray... Speaking of which:

The process viewer in Task Manager is not very useful to the average user. In some cases, even the most experienced users have a hard time determining what running processes named svchost.exe or mdm.exe, for example, actually are; they could be anything! And I don't like that from a privacy perspective. Hey, I'm paranoid. What can I say?

The problem is so many applications are written with the assumption that the user is able to write to the application directory. Winamp for example would crash with an illegal operation when I tried to run it under a limited user account. Maybe they have fixed it now, or maybe I had to enable an option for multi-user capability, but these things should just work without any fiddling.

I would like the display to use X Server.remove BSODs ( Is there a chance ??? ).And multiple desktop environments
like GNOME and KDE on linux. This wud
enhance desktop computing to a greater
extent. And the OS has to be more stable to be called a OS.. irritating reboots and frequent crashes.. sucks.

Actually, I'm not all the crazy about implementing an "X Server". And most of the crashes I've seen with 2K/XP are hardware or driver related so I can't fault it there.

The one problem I really have with Windows is the not having the ablility to keep things out of Virtual Memory and keep them in Physical Memory. Why place so much of the application's memory usuage into the swap file when I minimize it if I have the physical memory still available?
