I noticed that while the desktop reads version 0.9.3103.9....the main menu (bottom right of computer) still reads 0.9.3103.2

also, just wondering if/when the max limit of 5 gigs will be upgraded or enhanced...

First Impressions - Windows Live Mesh (Tech Preview)

I like a good UI, and the folks working on Mesh have done a very good job of raising the bar for web apps. This is still in tech preview, so there are some little pre-load things going on that you see, and it's a little slow, but it's looking really sharp.

When can we delete the note histories?

Some of us are starting to use live mesh very extensively and as a result are finding that the new section keeps growing and growing out of control. Is there a way to archive or filter or delete the new items.

Hi guys. I have to ask: Why the heck isn't this available in Canada?? You've opened it up to other major English-speaking countries. Why not Canada? It's a little frustrating to share a border with you guys and yet be shut out of something like this, while people on the other side of the planet are being invited in.

We've received a lot of requests to increase the cloud storage limit. I've added your vote for this to our internal list of requests - though I'm afraid I'm not able to say at this time if or when the limit might be increased.

Is there any way that Live Mesh developers can create a guide for home network users to streamline their NAT/Router/Network settings to make Live Mesh more consistently establish P2P connections between nodes on the same LAN?

I've been getting LAN throughput with the new build, but only in intermittent bursts. Things will accelerate to reasonable speeds only to back down to Cloud-Cloud transfer speeds over the shared internet connection. Anybody else experiencing the same phenomenon?

Keep up the great work. The potential for this is sky-high and I look forward to seeing this technology develop. Thanks for the opportunity to test it at the developmental stages.

Can we extend Live Mesh to sharing processing power (and not just folders), and in return give incentives to partcipants for more personal cloud space/email account size/etc.

On that Grid Mesh of processing power, we can lease some portion to 3rd parties. Or have just the Mesh Environment create a platform for sharing proessing power and let 3rd parties decide business model on top of it?

I'm afraid there are no tricks in the router/NAT configuration that will help for now. We’re still working on making our P2P system more intelligent. Today, it isn’t able to consistently understand which machines are close/fast (your local LAN) vs. which are far/slow (on other networks or in the cloud). We’re working hard to improve this, though, so stay tuned.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that this was the case, especially since I'm actually getting LAN throughput some of the time, but I wanted to know if there is anything that can be done on the LAN to facilitate faster transfers.

I imagine that the cloud model actually has the potential to be quite efficient; allowing for conflict management in the cloud allows network nodes to simply concentrate all resources on file transfers, right?

Is there likely to be any 'virtual' applications running within the desktop area of Live Mesh? - like email (could even use live mail UI), calendar, tasks, Office Doc viewer etc etc - especially since you already have the technology with live workspace, mail, etc. or are the dev apps only likely to be external with sync to mesh capabilities?

Also I would like to see mesh integrating feeds from other sites (I've read about this, but don't see any signs of it yet), a place to store notes - like onenote and clippings from the net, livechat with others who are in your mesh or possibly extending it to anyone on your messenger list, even a virtual browser - similar to how greenborder works from Google - helping to keep your PC safe from unsafe sites),

What about security? with this data traveling over the net - how secure is it all really? for instance if i setup a virtual folder on mesh which was in sync with all my systems, then stored my roboform datafile within this virtual folder and set all my pcs to open roboform from this virtual folder, is there any risk to that?

MESH Vs Me

Why can't we sync our outlook data?! Is it not possible to synchronize .pst files? there is a lot of potential with that. I could set up a new outlook .pst datafile, and create subfolders for notes, contacts, tasks, calendar, and have that datafile stored in a sync'd folder, synchronizing with all my systems - and have a separate datafile for email as email can be configured to be received on each computer (and stored on the server until deleted), I can then choose to share this datafile with others through mesh, essentially creating a mini-exchange mailbox (you can go even further with it but I'm just talking about it in its simplest form). - ideally though, there should be an outlook add-on for mesh which simplifies this setup and implementation, sharing etc within outlook (but i bet you guys have something up your sleeve in that department right?) i'm talking something along the lines of mobileme. i really hope you guys are working on something with mesh that competes with this.

Favourites Sync & Sharing - I can also create a folder and have all my favorites stored within it, and sync that up no problem between my computer systems and internet explorer - this is cool.

I think it would just also be great to sync outlook data. so why not? is this a feature you are holding out for a paid for version for business or does it conflict with Exchange too much? Home users can already share contacts and calendars using live mail desktop and calendar and there is some good competition now from MobileMe

also, could you tell us what are the file extensions that are not allowed with Mesh?

Do you think that there won't be any new features added to mesh until PDC in October? I know you guys are going to really want to showcase it then, and I'm sure Ray will have a big announcement or two about it.

The ability to sync .pst files has been a popular customer request, and we're definitely listening to all the great feedback we're getting from Live Mesh users - we've already done a number of regular updates that incorporated customer requests. I've added your vote for integration with Outlook to our internal list of suggestions.

To explain, though: the basic reason that we do not currently sync .pst files is that when Outlook is open it is constantly writing to the file, which can cause a number of conflicts and problems. Our platform experience is meant to be a horizontal "shell" for the Mesh (you might want to take a look at this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/livemesh/archive/2008/04/22/what-s-a-platform-experience-and-why-do-i-care.aspx), so we haven't done a lot of work on integration with particular applications. We do appreciate the suggestion, though, and we are listening. This suggestion might also be a good one to send to the Outlook team (http://blogs.msdn.com/outlook/Default.aspx).
