Installing Virtual PC Laptop Hotfix patch on Vista Beta 2 or later
With the new security features of Vista Beta 2 (or later) you may have problems installing Microsoft Patch files (msp).
For example, the laptop hotfix that is included with VPC 2004 SP1 vpc2004qfe889677_msdn.msp when run access for access but fails and rollsback.
To troubleshoot the install issues:
- Start a command prompt as administrator
- Go to the directory where the msp file is located
- Issue command "msiexec /p vpc2004qfe889677_msdn.msp /l* mylog.txt" without the quotes.
- NOTE: the /l* indicates to log everything and mylog.txt is the log file to record the log.
If you receive an error in the log file that the VMM service can not be stop issue "net stop vmm" without the quotes and repeat steps 1 through 4.
