SQL Dependency Tracker

I've always been a fan of Redgate and their tools were very useful in my last job - in particular we used SQL Compare a lot. I also used SQL Compare in Chapter 8 of the book to automate the database integration tasks in NAnt as part of the continuous integration cycle - a whole lot simpler than trying to roll your own, and also, there's a lot more intelligence in automating DB changes than appears when you first start to scratch the surface. You can still download chapter 8 from Apress if you're interested in that work.

Anyway, they've now released SQL Dependency Tracker for use in, of course, tracking dependencies amongst SQL objects. Now this is useful stuff. Think back to the time that ASP first arrived, and everyone went out and built ASP web sites, with VB as a business or data access layer, and then some Stored Procedures, and then a big database. Brilliant! And now think of hard it was to trace the impact of changes to Stored Procedures. Now think of the list of Sprocs that used to say sp_DoSomething, then sp_DoSomething_1, then 2 etc. Now realise that, actually, you're still supporting that application...

IMHO, I think these guys do great work. Take a look at their stuff.
