Silverlight and Commodore 64

I’ve mentioned we have a Commodore 64 in the office (it’s about the only machine that we can’t get Windows 7 to run on). Well, no need to be jealous of this particular artifact as you can now run a C64 emulator in Silverlight 3 . Terrific work is by Pete

Sorting Out My IE8

I’m running Windows 7 right now on all of my machines so I don’t have the RTM version of IE8 but I figured that I should probably sort out what I’ve got. When I joined Microsoft I was fairly fastidious in my use of IE, but I confess that I had a bit of

Quake 3 in Silverlight

French developer Julien Frelat has made a port of Quake from C/ASM to Silverlight 3. You can have a go of a demo (requires the SL3 beta) here. It’s not exactly playable – there’s more work to do – but it’s an interesting start and shows the rendering

Whilst Mix has been going on, Surface was also officially launched in the UK. Dr Dave was there to help things along. There’s a lot of commentary on the intertubes about the launch: Times Online , Mirror Online , Channel4.com , Silicon.com , CIO , TechDigest

Techfluff.tv at MIX 09

As a big fan of Techfluff.tv I was really pleased that Hermione and Sam were making a stop at Vegas to take in some of the event. They’ve been at SXSW just before so you’d imagine they’re getting “all conferenced out”. You can watch the keynotes at http://live.visitmix.com

2019 Vision

Talking of all that cliched 20:20 vision stuff, nice to see that Microsoft dodged a bullet and went with 2019. I love this video as an “inspira-tron” and really want to get my hands on the smart newspaper thing. Meantime I guess I have to settle for Surface

Visual Metaphors

Loved this Periodic Table of Typefaces from SwissMiss The Periodic Table works really well as a visual metaphor presumably because it sat on the wall of despised Chemistry lessons for most of our childhood. That kind of imagery is difficult to remove.
