8 Random Things

I don't really buy into these meme things (I'm probably bitter that I never get tagged, and don't have enough friends to forward them to, and besides they remind me of those "your whole family will die if you don't" chain letters) but seeing as it's Eileen

Army of Me

While Photosynth is looking cool , it's sometimes worth a rummage around the Microsoft Research website to see what fun toys there are to download. Group Shot is one of those things and has enabled me to produce evidence that proves that I'm not a loner

Caring for GUIDs

I've been meddling with WIX for a week now, which is all new to me. I'm forming a good opinion of it, though there is an awful lot to learn. It's straightforward to build simple installers for typical .NET apps, or websites. Installing Votive so that

Job 2x2

Part of my role is to "Synthesise and Simplify" concepts and so on. As you can imagine then, I'm a big fan of the 2x2 matrix to describe pretty much anything. James has an interesting post with a 2x2 matrix (time vs location) to describe jobs. Are you

Hakarl-tastic

As Friday draws to a close I'm off on a well-deserved break to Iceland. You can see the journey we'll be taking by looking at this Virtual Earth collection . I'll add some photos 1) if I find an internet connection somewhere or 2) when I get back. Now,

Mike is looking at LINQ

Mike Taulty's blog - he's a colleague of mine here in Reading - has a load of great content. Very recently there's a great post on his adventures with LINQ as he begins to get to grips with the tech. I have to say that I really like using LINQ but I haven't

LiveWriter Plug-Ins

I'm enjoying LiveWriter a lot as I've mentioned before, but now as the plug-in community grows it gets more powerful. I've now got plug-ins for code formatting, file attachments, technorati tags but even better... I definitely recommend you pick up LiveWriter

Where have I been?

I've been pretty busy of late with projects I can't discuss (as usual) so I haven't had a lot to talk about. (Though I'm running a little secret blog that I'll explain in a few posts.) Some exciting stuff though: I've finally had a couple of hours to

Visual search of Flickr

I was impressed by this visual search for Flickr. The idea is that you sketch what you want to find and then the search algorithm looks for specific colour clusters in the top 100,000 or so of Flickr's photos. It returned pictures of sunflowers and apples

while {Jetlag != null}()

A bit of blog silence descended for a while as I’ve been Really Busy of Late, but hopefully I can resume some kind of normal service. So, you say, what’s been keeping me busy? Well, apart from the house move, and still trying to sort out all the techy

Evil Technical Reviewers

Jim Holmes (no relation) talks about the ego-deflation exercise that is 'having your book technically reviewed' . I think he's recovering well! Sadly, I am one of those reviewers on his forthcoming book but hopefully haven't caused him too much pain.

World Cup + Nice Weather = Zero Productivity

What a busy month. I've been back-to-back with envisioning work this month, which is great fun, but it's difficult to switch off and do some personal work after home time as you need to keep everything to the forefront of your mind for the duration. I
