Orange C550 Device Rumour

Did you see this over the weekend? Allegedly, a new HTC device due to ship from Orange. It’s covered here on MoDaCo as well, with a suggested ship date of May!

There are two interesting things about this device (if it actually turns out to be true):

  • 64MB of memory (presumably ROM storage rather than RAM program memory). That’s a significant step up from the current Orange C500 model.
  • More importantly it’s touting a QVGA screen!

Although QVGA Smartphone has been supported from Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition this will be the first production QVGA smartphone. The Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition OS has an emulation layer used on full VGA devices so that older apps (dare I say 'legacy'!) that are not designed to work on the higher DPI hardware still operate correctly. However the Smartphone platform doesn’t have this emulation layer available so its going to be interesting to see what the results will be on the device.

Definitely one for the wish list!

# re: Orange C550 Device Rumour

Do you have any idea what the music buttons will map to? Is it likely that they'll ever be written into the Logo specs so people won't be able to override them and muck about? :)
