Here is a really nice example of using Photosynth: http://photosynth.net/silverlight/photosynth.aspx?cid=462a28aa-561c-408d-a70a-5762f4624172 you can see that the user took a photo of a number of smaller photos in one shot, then took shots closer up of each of the individual photos.  Photosynth matched these images and makes it easy to view each of the smaller images in more detail.
