Mark.

Photosynth Silverlight based viewer

If you haven't heard about www.photosynth.com before it is a Microosft website that allows you to create immersive 3D reconstructions of your photos - very cool. The team (Which I have been lucky to be a part of) just released a Silverlight based version of their viewing software which was previously a PC only install. The Silverlight viewer is not as powerful as the D3D version but it provides a great experience.

So:

1. Check out Photosynth and get synthing: www.photosynth.com

2. Try out the Silverlight viewer: www.photosynth.com/silverlight

One of my favourite synths is the following: http://photosynth.net/silverlight/photosynth.aspx?cid=05a75017-dbca-4fb1-b6df-f0c2ca0ba427 it is a really great example of how photosynth can be used to provide a more interactive experience when navigating through a set of images.

Happy synthing and post some links to your favourite synths in the comments.

Silverlight - Photosynth - DeepZoom - Seadragon

I have seen quite a few post on the web mixing up these term, saying things like "Silverlight gets Photosynth", which is not correct. So ...

Silverlight (http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/) : cross platform runtime for developing rich internet applications.

Seadragon (http://livelabs.com/seadragon/) : component that allows you to view vast amounts of visual information quickly and with low bandwidth.

Photosynth (http://photosynth.net) : an applicatio which uses the Seadragon platform to allow you to zoom into great detail on photos uploaded to the photosynth website in a 3D environment.

DeepZoom (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645050(VS.95).aspx) : is an implementation of the SeaDragon engine inside the Silverlight runtime, exposed as the MultiScaleImage control.

Based on these definitions it would be correct to say "Silverlight gets DeepZoom".

Good press or bad press?

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/gigaom/big-tech/2008_12_08_netflix_to_lay_off_50_blames_silverlight.html

First post

Hi everyone - this is my first post! Hopefully I will post some interesting articles on C#, Silverlight and graphics, stay tuned.
