Astronomical Hype

My job increasingly involves marketing so I completely understand the need for a little sensationalism, but the European astronomers have gone entirely too far...

You CAN NOT call a planet w/a surface tempature of 1160 farenheit and a 10 day year 'Super Earth'. Its a complete misrepresentation and will probably result in poor decisions around the future direction of the US space program (which one do you think Congress is more likely to fund: a manned mission to Mars or Super Earth?)

# re: Astronomical Hype

Do you honestly think that NASA/Congress would greenlight a mission based upon name of a discovery only?

I would hope congress would not approve a manned mission to "Super Earth". It is 50 light years away, and our space shuttle cannot travel even nearly the speed of light, therefore by the time the shuttle arrived that astronauts would have died of old age.

So I don't understand why you think that is a complete misrepresentation?

What, doesn't it mean earth like if it's made out of rock.
