Spoons

Spoons can be played many ways.  The following is how the “Night Train” played at the crib in Atlanta...

Object: Don't be left without a spoon (or bottle opener in our case).

N-1 spoons (or other objects available, I don't recommend knives!) should be placed in the center of the table.  Each player is dealt 4 cards.  (5 if only 4 players).  The dealer (who is the previous looser) takes a card from the deck and discards a card to the right (counter clockwise).  No player should have more than 4 (5 if 4 players) cards at one time in their hand.  The cards should move quickly around the table.  The dealer must let the original deck be dealt completely before starting on the pile of cards that have already made the rounds.

Once someone gets 4 of a kind, they should attempt to sneak a spoon off the table, continue to play and see how long it takes for the other players to realize that a spoon is missing and the frantic dive for the available cards begins.  For, once a single spoon is gone it is open season on the remainder regardless of your hand.  The looser must deal the next hand and potentially do a truth or dare...

Spoons is an absolutely brilliant game. The one thing you didn't mention, though, is the potentially crippling injuries that you risk when playing spoons with people who have long fingernails or those with death-like handshake grips.

Spoons can turn the most innocent lighthearted soul into a slavering wild-eyed beast. You have been warned.
