How do you fancy a 51% performance increase in SPS 2003?

Sounds too good to be true does'nt it?

Microsoft have just released some test results that compare the performance of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on SQL 2000 vs. SQL 2005.

Using SQL 2005 improves performance on every type of SharePoint farm configuration, but the most notable is a 51% increase in RPS (Requests Per Second) for a medium server farm under SQL 2005. The full table is:

Farm Type SQL 2000 RPS SQL 2005 RPS Increase
Small 75 97 +29%
Medium 131 198 +51%
Large 1015 1114 +10%
Extra Large 1638 1932 +18%

Who is using 64 bit SQL Server 2000? I would have preferred the test be on 32 bit hardware. Check out my post. http://msmvps.com/blogs/shane/archive/2006/03/15/86419.aspx

Since Sharepoint is getting huge wouldn't it be time to establish a Sharepoint Benchmarking Standard...
