Microsoft Emerging Technology and Creative Development
Technology Rhythms of Microsoft

I have always worked fairly close to a part of Microsoft called DPE (Developer and Platform Evangelism), basically these guys are charged with the task of getting people enthused and excited about Microsoft’s emerging technologies. I thought it might be useful to provide a small insight into the roadmap for some of our technology rhythms that the DPE team work to.

We are interested in all companies, of course, but we can do the most for those which will in some way align with, and enhance, our newest technologies. Here’s a thumbnail sketch of the technologies we will be focused on over the next year or so…..

·         SQL Server codename “Katmai” –the next version of SQL Server with focus on the following themes: Data Platform, Dynamic Development, Beyond Relational and Pervasive Insight.

·         Windows Server (codename “Longhorn”) –  focus on Identity, Web & Application Server, Virtualization and Management and high-performance computing.

·         Vista –broadening the reach of the client-side .NET 3.0 platform (including WPF, WCF and ClickOnce) , as well as Windows Media Center and the Vista Sidebar.

·         Office –emerging information Worker technologies including Unified Communications, The next version of Visual Studio Tools for Office (in the upcoming release of Visual Studio codenamed  “Orcas”, Open XML, Office Live and Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server)

·         Web User Experience – our technologies for building cross-platform, browser-based experiences including: ASP.NET (AJAX), SilverLight, and Windows Live Services.

·         Visual Studio “Orcas” and the .NET Framework –developer platform (.NET Framework 3.x), lifecycle tools (VSTS/TFS)

·         Dynamics –  Dynamics CRM codenamed “Titan” and Dynamics AX 5.0.  including SaaS/online delivery models for CRM.
