Microsoft Silverlight

If you haven’t heard of Silverlight yet, you soon will!!

Silverlight is the technology that Microsoft has marked as the key to its future, this piece of technology truly revolutionises the web experience.

Silverlight is Microsoft’s answer to flash or Adobe AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime), Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web.

Adobe AIR, formerly code-named Apollo, is a cross-operating system runtime that allows developers to use their existing web development skills to build and deploy rich Internet applications to the desktop. You could look here for more info -  http://www.adobeair.com – but you will discover that they unfortunately named the product after a rotund individual selling air con units J. Instead look here

Any way, back to Silverlight, whats it all about? The best way to find out is to go to the website and download it, it takes seconds to install and you will see the webpage transform to become a far more  interactive and rich user experience. Next go here - http://silverlight.net/fox  and check out Hi def video streaming! – cool! (I really wanna see Pathfinder!!)

Need more convincing? Check out the Silverlight Community Site and in particular the Silverlight Showcase

Now lets think about the bigger picture, the  work that our friends Skinkers are doing with their Livestation project – live TV streamed to your desktop. Live Video, high def, cross platform, reskinning/resizing the player on the fly, Microsoft Surface   - this is looking good!
