If you are receiving an error stating that you cannot be signed in because you have created or received lists with another e-mail address, you have two options for signing in. The easiest way to start using Max again is to sign in with the e-mail address you used previously with Max. If that does not work, or you cannot use that e-mail address anymore, you will need to follow the steps below to remove a set of files from your computer. Once these files are removed, you will be able to sign in with any Passport or Live ID e-mail account. Note that deleting these files will mean that any lists you have created or received will no longer be seen in Max and you will need to either recreate them or request that the owner share them with your new e-mail address.

Steps for addressing this sign in error:
  1. Sign in with your previous e-mail address
  2. If sign in still does not work, exit Max
  3. Navigate to your local settings and locate the Microsoft Codename Max application data (e.g. – C:\Documents and Settings\JohnSmith\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Codename Max)
  4. Within the Microsoft Codename Max folder, delete both settings.xml and datastore.sdf
  5. Navigate to the Max folder in your Documents and Settings (e.g. – C:\Documents and Settings\JohnSmith\Max)
  6. Locate the folder named as your previous e-mail address Note – any pictures you have received on this computer that you want to save should be copied out this folder to another location.
  7. Delete the folder named as your previous e-mail address and all of its contents
  8. Start Max and sign in with your preferred e-mail address
