I get "Max was unable to download the files it needs to install. Please try again later." message, maybe the problem is the proxy... Can you give me a direct link to the full setup package exe (m_pkg.exe)? What's the better setup experience? Notify me at first that my Windows is not English version? (I had to try it by English version in Virtual PC...)

Very very disappointed.....it's obvious this has not been tested and released with suuport of the most current .NET. I get a message that indicates I would need a system with more than 6 month old software. Are you on the same page as the rest of Microsoft ?

Great annotation feature! However, it would also be nice, it it was possible to add a text box to a photo and write in text using your keyboard.

I have just downloaded and started using MAX however, some of the picutres I am puting in to my lists are distored as the pictures are blowen up to full screen. It would be nice if when you update this product again you gave useres the ability to control the size of the pictures and to play the sequence in the list once and then stop rather than constantly bieng repeated.

I like it. It's sort of a good idea but there needs to be a way to see who has viewed your pictures and when. It would be nice if we could add background sound, too.

This really bites. I get a message from Microsoft telling me to try out this great piece of software called "Max". Nothing on the dowload page tells me that I do not have the requirements to install this. I download and click the executable to install and ..... some stupid message about having a newer version of .Net and the installation aborts. So to use this great piece of software I have to run old, potentially buggy code?!! Get with the program people.

Hi All

I'm an imaging professional and was very interested in your image sharing programme. I have a few suggestions.
1. While keeping the excellent simnplicity I think you could add some preference features for slide playback. I would like a manual play option so that I can go to the next slide by clicking or using a right arrow.
2. I'd like to choose the length of time used on autoplayback i.e. how long each picture is displayed.
3. You might consider a way of allowing a keyboard option for annotation. My attempts to use the pen were very wobbly. I don't have Wacom tablet at home so writing with a mouse looked poor.
4. Also using a manual playback it would be good to see the filename displayed somewhere so that another user can mark the pictures they like and be able to list the filenames and let the sender know. This would have lots of applications in the photo industry where subjects of photo sessions view the set and tell the photographer which pictures they approve of. See the Fotostation programme for what I mean. I can use a space bar to select images and create albums and then download the images from an album. This would be an amazing feature which would really complete what you are trying to do.

I'm glad you have released an update, I was starting to think you had fallen asleep ;)

I love the way the programme works and all my friends and family have enjoyed my slideshows from it. I know the point is to share the lists but will there ever be a "burn show to CD/DVD" option?

Also it really bugs me that i can't rotate the photos. It means i have to edit the photos in ecplorer before i can import them into Max. This is very time-wasting and i was surprised not to see it as one of the options in the edit right-click menu.

I don't know if this is feasible or not, but I would really like to see an option to export/burn a Max list (or series of lists) to CD or DVD so the galleries could be viewed on other systems without the need for installing software. This would be a great feature for students interested in showcasing their artistic work, and for sharing photos with people who are not computer savvy or want to look at pictures on their DVD-equipped televisions.

It would be really great to see a version comaptible with the latest CTP of WinFX (December CTP).

This app could be a great way to tell the WPF story to end users, but the lack of up to date builds is NOT selling it.

I am digitising my photographs from 1856 to now - over 3,000 diapositives just to start with. If such a collection is to be practically useful it will need to be indexable according to the interests of any particular viewer. With that in mind I am cataloguing as I go along using Excel. Sorting Excel data once scanning and cataloguing is complete will help me to determine the final categorisations.
For MAX to be useful to me in the final analysis it:
MUST - respond to categorisations and list accordingly
MUST - Relate images to descriptive notes
WANT - Provide for sound
WANT - Privide for (limited) video clips

Like it so far - nice job.

I second the addition of a TEXT tool (see Jon's post way up top) in the Annotate function. But would also like to see the Annotate toolset expanded to something similar to the MS Draw feature in Office. (ie line, box, ellipse, etc.) Drawing with the mouse is just clumsy. And I'd like the ability to change the pen color. Or did I miss that?

A one-way blog is the only kind of feedback channel available for a Microsoft Beta product?

Why does Microsoft always try to make assumptions about how I like to read, and then "help?" When I pull a sliding arrow down the page to scroll, and then stop, that's where I want it to stop--I do NOT want it to automatically find somer arbitrary page divider and reposition the page so it's centered. Word doesn't do that, why should Max?

From what I can tell Max, with all its underlying processes and technology, uses well over 100MB, even before opening any real content. That's not a UI, it's a mini operating system (not that mini, either).

Why would I want specific news pre-selected for me and rammed down my throat. I could give a crap less about Hockey, so I sure as heck don't want to waste any of my computer's resources or screen real estate dedicated to it. What sort of UI would not let me customize what gets pushed or pulled into my browser? I don't even want Science and Health on the main screen, even if I could filter and customize it to something realistic and personal.

It didn't take 2 minutes to move the screen a little and have it somehow totally slide out of the viewable portion
of my desktop. I then had to experiment on how to force a window with no menubar, taskbar, or buttons to move down. Beta? Yep. Will it be any better in the next version? Who knows...

So, given that I don't like and can't customize or thus appreciate or use the news functionality, that only leaves
the Lists functionality to consider. Well, first there's the name. Lists? Am I really creating lists? Aren't
they collections, or views, or albums? I see lists all the time on Yahoo--favorite music lists, favorite books,
etc. And my media players have lists. Then I bring it up and it defaults to some odd directory that I have not
seen or used in probably over a month. I can't even figure out how to "Browse" to other directories, so I can
suck in the pictures I would ACTUALLY want to share. I click in the Name button, but it doesn't do anything. After about 5 minutes, I finally get to the Browse all my pictures, and then Look in: box so I can pick a folder. Is it just me, or is that the FIRST place anyone that's ever used any version of GUI windows product would want to look?

Bottom line, this thing comes off as some flunky Apple Mac product that's been (poorly) ported to Windows. It took less than 10 minutes to figure out that it's not something I would want to continue torturing myself with, much less recommending it to others, so they would in turn be tortured and turn to me to help train them on what I consider is the stupidest looking and functioning "user interface" on the planet.

Kill this thing. Kill it now. I don't even like seeing it in my WSUS environment, and am clicking to remove it from
WSUS as we speak. Immediately after that, I'm uninstalling it and praying that it doesn't totally hose up my system in the process. There are a lot better "portals" out there than Max, and don't come with all the goofiness this "product" does. The only people I think might benefit from (or even understand how to use) this product, is some kindergarten class, or a zoo full of Apple Macintosh users. This entire project seems like
something that grew out of a) a bet Bill Gates lost and now it's time to pay up, or b) something he gave to one of his kids to "spearhead" as a special project to develop their business acumen.

Thanks for your feedback about the page scrolling in news. We've actually heard the opposite from some people, so I think it's safe to say that opinions vary. We may consider making it a setting in a future release.

We completely agree with you that you should be able to specify your own news content. We're adding that feature in the next release :)

I'm curious to better understand the bug you experienced when moving your screen? I'm not quite sure how to reproduce the bug based on your description.

We're modifying the list creation flow to start where you want it to start in a future release :)

Despite your comments at the end, I hope you give us another chance when we release our next update. We count on users like you to give us feedback, help us make Max better (or in your case, tolerable ;) ).
