Ok, why even release a .Net/RC1 bits version and not support Vista RC1?

I sure you have some weird technical reason, but you should at least mention why... (Especially considering 3rd parties and all other MS WPF/.Net3.0 applications support both XP and Vista seamlessly)

This is a Preview release. Therefore, do not install this on machines you depend on. Microsoft Codename Max requires the .NET Framework 3.0 Release Candidate in order to function properly. Max will install this for you. However, if you have a previous version of the .NET Framework 3.0, WinFX Runtime Components, Avalon ("Windows Presentation Foundation"), or Indigo ("Windows Communication Foundation") installed, please uninstall before installing Max.

Vista RC1 and x64 support is a bit illogical:

- Vista RC1 will work as long as the framework is on there, which it is by default
- The x86-x64 barrier is handled by the CLR. Applications don't need to be modified.

Hi all,
This is my first time installing max. Its a really cool example of wpf, especially the news reader.

Is there any reason you used a scrollbar rather than standard wpf "next page" model for text display?

Also do you intent release a mini version as xbap?

Vista support make no sense, but what about Windows 2003 Server? .NET 3.0 is supported on there, why make the setup bail (which, BTW, appears to more be a SERVICE PACK check than anything)

Please, please - why won't it run on Vista? Vista also has .Net 3.0 RC1 and even when I fool the installer by changing the msi file it still checks for Windows XP SP2 when you start the program. If only I could start it I think it would work just fine (or it should)

It's very pretty looking - for photos it seems to be really nice. But as an RSS reader that huge print on the left is totally unweildy. I could not imagine reading my 130 subscriptions this way. Web-based readers are the way to go. If you have access to a LAMP server, check out http://www.monkeychow.org.

My 2 cents:
1) Add export to a web gallery functionality (creates a templated HTML/js page with a slide-show of pictures selected).
2) Add feature to upload your photoset/pictures to online photo galleries like flickr/MSN Spaces etc.

it's a shame no one has responded to the questions asked in here, it wouldn't take 2 minutes, besides, what is the point in allowing comments in this blog if you don't read them ?

I'll ask again:

I know is beta, but: WHY it does not work with Vista RC1? It doesn't sound logical nor gives developers a good level of trust in this .NET Framework thing.

Please, read the comments. Take a little time to answer. The app look cool... it'd be nice if more people could try it, Even people with SPANISH versions of XP, i'm not sure if you know this, but we are are millions.

My guess is that something is got to be horrible written in a OS if you can't install an app because you use a language other than english.

I hope this is not the case in Vista... just for the record, it really sucks having to wait for patches, fixes, etc, to come for your language.

I've waited for how long..? maybe more than a year, to see if this App comes out for my OS language, which is spanish and my conclusion is: QUE POCA MADRE TIENEN LOS PROGRAMADORES ;)

Hey folks at MS. This program is really nice and polished, on par with Apple design, huge kudos to your team! I'm sure you have your reasons for not supporting Vista RC1.

I do wonder how come this is not integrated with Windows Photo Gallery.

Also, while I appreciate the RSS Reader, it makes the feature a little out of context for a photo program. Perhaps if you make it some sort of a "Media Center" app where all digital media is combined together, users can share videos in the same fashion as photos right now with Max?

Why integrate blogging tools and rss feeds into a photo viewing tool? Good god, why do ms teams constantly reinvent and embed the same functionality everywhere.

We have RSS feeds in IE7, web blog authoring tool released a few months ago, a new photo viewer in vista, and so on.

So what is MAX for? what building blocks are you adding?

I agree that it is stupid to release this with support for Vista RC1. Isn't the whole damn point of something like Max to show off the graphical capabilities of Vista? Yeah, yeah I know WPF runs on XP also. Still I think the point stands. Extremely disappointed.

I think you need a new product name.

MAX has been used for a product name (on a different commercial OS: now ported to MS) for OVER 10 YEARS.
Th eport of same product to microsoft has been on place for over 2 years.

I suspect you would loose an infringement suit.

The major issue I have with Max as a news reader is that to read the whole story you have to open the full link in a browser. I would much rather open a modal window in Max for the complete post. Also, I love the keyboard navigation in features Google Reader.

I found this is totally weird that it is taking system component for language. Here is my story that I have non-english OS (came with the computer) and I don't want max to run in that language !!

Max looks cool especially the RSS feed. A couple of thoughts after the initial setup that I thought I should share. When you click on a topic IE opens up but it seems painfully slow. It would be really nice if the same page/box in Max could expand to show the full story (or scroll through). It would also be great if feeds set up in IE7 can be imported into Max - that would be really sweet.

Timing between Visa and Max updates was off. We're talking pre-release software here, people, so timing the deliverables of multiple projects probably isn't all that essential. Considering the number of builds of Vista released in the last few months, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Even 2007 Office beta 2 needed a tech refresh update to run on Vista RC1, so that should give some indication of the dramatic changes and improvements from the Beta 2 Preview of Vista. Sheesh!
