We have just released a Wiki on msdn2.microsoft.com!

Now anyone with a valid Live Id or hotmail account can contribute content directly to the main msdn web site.

Although the wiki feature is currently available on only the VS2005 and Windows SDK managed reference docs, over the next few months it should grow to encompass most if not all of the content in the library.

A few features:

  • Inline editing and history viewer
  • Add/Edit from within the Visual Studio ide
  • Wiki content is discoverable via online search engines

I look forward to seeing our content grow and improve.  Please take a moment and try it out.   If you experience issues with the feature or have ideas for v.next would love to hear from you.

Here is an rss feed to recent contributions: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/Community-Edits(d=rss).aspx

Also check out the User Profile urls which contain your display name - here's mine: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/user-mark durso msft.aspx

I just ran across this article on Dr Dobb's Journal which is pretty informative and gives more details on where the wiki has been prior to 12/6/2006 and where it is heading: http://www.ddj.com/dept/windows/194300481

Dev Lead for MSDN Wiki project

Ron Jacobs has posted the ARCast we did around my session at VSLive in San Francisco on Channel 9.  The show focuses on the philosophy behind some of the work we've done for MSDN2 and focuses on a few specific technologies like the Virtual Path Provider and the ASP.Net 2.0 TreeView control.

Check it out!

The deck and sample projects are attached to this post as a zip file.  To download, click the Attachments link below.

Sample code covers:

  • Virtual Path Provider and Virtual File classes
  • Master Pages
  • TreeView control

The TreeView sample covers both a databound TreeView and a dynamically loaded and sync'd tree (ala msdn2).

Note that the ContentProvider class is just a place holder for similar functionality in your own app.  In other words, the code in this class is pure demo-ware and should be replaced with your own code that fits your business needs.

After watching the presidential debates and seeing that many people feel that Kerry won all three debates I started to wonder who is going to win.  I've heard the pundits repeat that the first debate put Kerry back into the race but since then things have been at a tie.

here is an interesting site that takes the recent polls in each state and calculates how many electoral votes each candidate has according to the pollster

Check out this "news" report on undecided voters (30 sec, commercial first, then report)

To me it looks like that candidate that wins in two out of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida takes it.

I've been fascinated by Mt St Helens recently.  I was in the third grade when it erupted in 1980 and remember it vividly as we were studying plate tectonics and volcanism at the time.  This time, though not as explosive, it's more interesting (I think) because there is some much up to the minute info on what's going on at the mountain available on the Internet.
