An Introduction
Welcome to MelSam's Blog - a new blog for Windows Mobile developers.
First, a quick introduction. My name is Mel Sampat and I work as a Program Manager in the Mobile & Embedded Devices (MED) division at Microsoft. Depending on whether you're an Xbox fan, MED is the coolest or second coolest place to work within Microsoft. My responsibilities include improving the developer experience and maximizing application compatibility for current and future versions of Windows Mobile.
My first Windows-powered device was an HP Jornada 548 back in 2001. I bought it simply to play solitaire and maybe read some ebooks during boring meetings at a dull former job. Although the device capabilities were limited by today's standards, I fell in love with the platform. In just a few weeks, I went from being an end user to being a developer, and never looked back. As Windows Mobile devices have evolved over the last 5 years, I've written dozens of applications, and used many many more. Although I no longer code as part of my day job, I'm still as passionate about mobile development as someone who's just successfully written their first Pocket PC application.
It amazes me to see applications being written to leverage new features at every evolutionary stage of the Windows Mobile platform. From the simplest tip calculators to complex line of business applications to a robot that sees, talks and dances, the rich capabilities of Windows Mobile devices have opened up huge possibilities for developers. My team's job at Microsoft is to continue to give you, the ISVs and enterprise developers, the tools, APIs and resources to continue building great applications.
"MelSam", as you might guess, is my email alias. People are sometimes referred to by their alias at Microsoft - hence the title of this blog. Feel free to contact me at melsam [at] microsoft.com, or use the Email link above.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you stick around and visit often.
