I'm pleased to announce that we've released Japanese Visual Studio 2010 Beta1 Documentation on the MSDN Online Library.
In this release we've tried couple of new things such as Machine Translation, English and Japanese Side by Side (SxS) View, Highlighting feature.
Japan has very high-standard for everything and introducing Machine Translated Developer content to this High-Tech country is a big challenge. So we implemented the English (source) and Japanese (target) SxS view to help our customer to use Machine Translated developer documentation. In my personal opinion? It's very COOL!! I love it and I hope many Japanese customer will love it. Since this is the first time we introduced SxS Library to Japan you may see something you don't expect. We love to hear all those feedback and bug information!

My smart readers sent me some thoughts on the MSDN Help System. Thanks for your feedback and anybody who has feedback about MSDN feel free to send me your suggestions via Contact form.
Our Help Experience team has been working on the new Help System, hopefully it'll be a nice improvement.
By the way, there's not much updates about Help3 in AprilR's blog since last update but I know that the team is working very hard.
Thanks again for your feedback.
The translation is not perfect but the Machine Translation is becoming more useful and popular these days.
There are couple of SxS (side-by-side) display option that Windows Live Translator has and I'm just thinking if MSDN Online Library can have the same display options. Live Translator offers Vertical, Horizontal windows and pop-up text for either original English or machine translation.
Here's an example of MSDN machine translation page. http://msdn.microsoft.com/pt-br/library/ms246590.aspx
You can see the English original content and Brazilian Portuguese content side by side.
If you try Live Translator (copy and paste the English original page URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms246590.aspx)
you'll see the machine translation result like below.
http://www.windowslivetranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=Internal#http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms246590.aspx
The translation is not identical but looks almost the same. Probably the different results came from different (latest, more tuned or bit older) machine translation memory. I assume Live Translator is using more recent translation memory but can't tell which one has better translation quality in this example.
Below is the two machine translation results.

Windows Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Packs permitem que você instale uma versão em inglês do Windows e instale vários User Interface Language Packs. User Interface Language Packs fornecem uma interface de usuário (UI) localizada para o sistema operacional. Por exemplo, você pode instalar uma User Interface Language Pack em japonês por cima de uma versão em inglês do Windows e depois alternar o idioma da UI do Windows entre japonês e inglês. O MUI permite você ter várias versões de idiomas do Windows em um único computador.

Tips for the DVD burn software:
- When you download the ISO image for MSDN (Full) Library and burn a DVD (DVD-5) please check the options before you actually burn a DVD.
- Look for an option something like "Burn DVD from an ISO image". (The menu is different depends on the DVD burner software you have.)
- If you see just one big ISO file in your DVD instead of many .cab files and folders (including "setup.exe") you created a DVD with wrong way.

My cat was walking on my keyboard while I was working from home this morning.
Later I saw this cat furniture in my friend's blog. I think the furniture looks pretty good
if the cat stays in the box all the time...

I got couple of questions about the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 Beta from users.
MSDN Offline Library is not included in the VS2008 SP1. The Beta doc is available online only.

Recently I received couple of questions regarding Online search from MSDN Offline Library from the people who were having trouble searching online topics.
Some people were using multiple language version of MSDN Library. Some people were using localized version of MSDN Library on the English OS or the other way around.
If you have internet connection but can't search from MSDN Offline Library please check following settings in the Tool - Option menu before you report a bug.
Tool - Option
Help - General: See if "Online Topic language:" is set to the language you want and see if "Also show English topics" is checked.
Help - Online: See if "Try local only, not online" is selected.
International Setting - See if the language setting is correct.
Web Browser: Check the Search page URL. If your online search is not working try search.msdn.microsoft.com
For example somebody who's using French MSDN Library on the English OS and wants to search French topic, check the topic language is set to French.
People who's getting 0 (zero) MSDN online result, make sure "Try local only" is not selected in the Help - Online setting.
