So we implemented the English (source) and Japanese (target) SxS view to help our customer to use Machine Translated developer documentation. In my personal opinion? It's very COOL!! I love it and I hope many Japanese customer will love it. Since this is the first time we introduced SxS Library to Japan you may see something you don't expect. We love to hear all those feedback and bug information!

VS2010 URL:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/library/fx6bk1f4(VS.100).aspx

.NET Framework 4 URL:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/library/w0x726c2(VS.100).aspx

Machine Translation Pilot program FAQ (created by Microsoft Japan team) URL:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/vstudio/dd794695.aspx

Highlighting the Machine Translated content in the Japanese pane.

Highlighting the English source.

Machine Translation: SxS display options from Live Translator

The translation is not perfect but the Machine Translation is becoming more useful and popular these days.
There are couple of SxS (side-by-side) display option that Windows Live Translator has and I'm just thinking if MSDN Online Library can have the same display options. Live Translator offers Vertical, Horizontal windows and pop-up text for either original English or machine translation.

Here's an example of MSDN machine translation page. http://msdn.microsoft.com/pt-br/library/ms246590.aspx
You can see the English original content and Brazilian Portuguese content side by side.

If you try Live Translator (copy and paste the English original page URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms246590.aspx)
you'll see the machine translation result like below.
http://www.windowslivetranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=Internal#http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms246590.aspx

The translation is not identical but looks almost the same. Probably the different results came from different (latest, more tuned or bit older) machine translation memory. I assume Live Translator is using more recent translation memory but can't tell which one has better translation quality in this example.

Below is the two machine translation results.
--------------- MSDN Online Library ------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------

More interesting information available at the Microsoft Research Machine Translation (MSR-MT) Team Blog http://blogs.msdn.com/translation/default.aspx
