Does Word 2007 RTM fix this very annoying behaviour in Word 2003 (and prior versions):

If a paragraph style includes a numbering style, and the documents's template (including that paragrph style) is updated, then the numbering of that paragraph is reset. So instead of several lists marked 1, 2, 3... throughout the document, there's just one long list of numbers.

This is something we've investigated and definitely will look at again in future versions.--Sj

In the meantime, there could be a couple of VBA macros in this: run NumberSave (iterates through all numbered parags and saves all start at values) before undertaking any style changes; afterwards run NumberRestore (iterates through, applying all start at values.)

Microsoft as usual has tried to provide flexibility and confusion by allowing lots of possibilities.

The one problem with the numbering is attaching number with the style. Now if by chance you change the style then you numbering is gone in the document where you have attached style in numbering.

No clear line or guidance is found on the net explaining 1 2 3 4 of numbering and how it can be easy in day to day work while working witht the employees and remote office.
