Tablet + Streets & Trips 2005 & GPS Receiver == Navigation...

I've been using a Navman GPS4410 Bluetooth device with my PocketPC to get directions and navigation for some time now - this is a really neat navigation package - a PocketPC Phone Edition that you carry around with you, get into the car, connect to the Navman Bluetooth GPS device, and start getting directions, couldn't be easier.

I also use Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005 to view map data and get a feel for where a trip is going to take me - the new release of Streets & Trips supports GPS devices - Last night I decided to set up the software to use the Navman Bluetooth GPS receiver - turned out this was really, really simple - within a few minutes Streets & Trips had located me and I had plotted a route to a nearby coffee house  (I knew the route already, but it was good to see the application plot the shortest route) - The combination of Tablet, GPS, and Streets & Trips works well - but there does seem to be something missing...

The Navman solution gives turn-by-turn voice commands which means I don't need to take my eyes off the road - I've not seen any options in the Streets & Trips product to give me voice directions when driving - IMHO this is a needed feature, I guess it's ok if I have a passenger in the car that can tell me where to turn, but that's not always an option.

That's one of the first things I noticed while looking at the Streets & Trips website. I was thinking how cool it'd have been if they could've gotten with the MS Voice Command team and provided a solution that would give you vocal directions and possibly allow for controlling the app with your voice.

This would be a cool GPS/mapping solution that would offer extreme portability (just need the included GPS receiver and a PocketPC or Smartphone), and rival (as far as mapping) the MS Automotive embedded solution
