Hurrah! Just Passed MCP Exam 70-562

I must admit I'm pretty relieved as I would have suffered a bit of a ribbing in the office had I not passed Exam 70-562: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET Application Development. This is a relatively new exam and I was a little concerned when I saw I was allowed 3.5 hours to complete it. It did feel like a bit of a marathon at times, especially when presented with one of those extra-long questions.

I've definitely been spoiled though. The last time I sat an MCP exam was a couple of years ago. One of the perks of working for MS is the company picks up the exam fees. That's still true but we also had a test centre on site at Thames Valley Park. You could simply book a slot and roll up any Friday to sit an exam (same conditions at external I should point out and they were actually externally invigilated).

Now, however, our in-house test centre is no more (or at least it's currently out of action) so a trip to a certified test centre is required. Not such a big deal but I did feel a little like a convict when I was relieved of my wallet and keys before entering the exam area!

And we really need to do something about the UI - answering any question that involves scrolling is just painful. I should have mentioned that on my feedback. Another opportunity missed....

David - Sorry, I don't know. The info page just says it was due for release in Aug 2008. It seems to have released now :-).

Mike,

You should receive an email (from your employer) asking you to provide feedback on the exam experience. One of the questions on there is about questions that require scrolling. I agree, its a pain when you are essentially doing a process-of-elimination through large amount of very similar code options to find the correct answer!

Hi Girija.

My experience probably doesn't serve as a good guide to how much prep to do but I'll share it anyway. I started with a practice test to get a feel for the exam contents (it was a Measure Up test IIRC) then spent a few hours reading up in areas I felt I was weak.

That said I'm pretty familiar with ASP.NET 3.5 so I didn't expect to have to do too much. I did have to spend time on Mobile controls and tracing / debugging as I didn't come out as well as I would have liked in those areas in the practice test.

That said, had I been paying for my own test I would have spent more time to make sure I knew all the areas to be tested thoroughly and had a very high confidence I would pass. As it was I passed the exam comfortably but going into it I really wasn't certain how it would turn out.

Good luck!

Mike
