Pronouncing my last name

Pronouncing my last name

So I always get asked how to pronounce my last name. Even though it may look long and difficult to pronounce, after I teach you how to pronounce it, you should have no problems after today. My last name is Taghizadeh.

Basically, break down my last name into two parts: Taghi and Zadeh

1. Now pronounce the first part as you would with the word Tacky

2. Now pronounce the second part as the Canadian pronunciation of the letter Z (In US, this letter is pronounced "Zee", in Canada it is pronounced "Zed"). This also rhymes with Ted and Fed.

So put them together and you get: Tacky + Zed

So basically my name is Mike TackyZed

Now wasn't that easy :-)

Well, I'm glad you wrote something on this because I  was looking for the pronunciation of the Olympic weightlifter Hossein Rezazadeh (Iran), and you know English, we want to pronounce every syllable you put in front of us--forget the finesse! So, it was very helpful to see that "zadeh" = "zed" -- so I'm guessing that Rezazadeh is "REZ-ah-zed" (extrapolating "TACK-ee-zed")? Thanks!
