&lt;p&gt;I'm going to have to argue this, especially as your soapbox comment has been cited (out of context) in a suggestion that we shouldn't do exactly that.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I agree when you say one shouldn't limit some parts of Sharepoint (services etc...) against other parts. But overall, on a shared platform, limiting SharePoint to keep other key operational systems available is an entirely valid policy decision to make: indeed it's the reason we have the Resource Governor in the first place, right?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It might shock some people, but SharePoint isn't always the most important app on a box.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;(Bear in mind of course that Resource Governor limits only kick in under load - if there's no need to limit, everyone gets what they need)&lt;/p&gt;

We recommend dedicated hosting as a best practice for all MSFT enterprise applications including SharePoint and in most cases hosters should dedicate SharePoint to guarantee security and performance across tenants. Doing so cheaply at scale is the special &amp;quot;glue&amp;quot; that hosters provide.&lt;/p&gt;
