Apple's iPhone root password cracked...opps!

This just in, Apple's iPhone is not so safe and secure after all! The guys at hackint0sh.org have cracked the password. The root and another "mobile" account password of iPhone OSX 1.0, have been obtained from a passwd file. The hash turned out to be old plain 1979 DES. DES! Can you believe it? Wow! Apple's forgotten that the world of computing has progressed since 1979. I mean, if you are using DES it's like leaving a key next to the lock of a bullion bank! Come on! Perhaps a rookie mistake...

And in case, you are wondering what it is:

The password for root is "alpine"
The "mobile" user accounts password is "dottie"

Now, I wonder how AT&T will react when users start downloading mega big files using torrents on their edge network. Ouch! I can already imagine the joys of using Skpye on this...screw the ugly cell phone bills.

So much for all their 'Apple's safe and Secure' marketing blitz! If only their ad's were half as true as their products. 'Cool and dumb' is not a great combination...but then, 'blonde, hot and dumb' is...go figure!

Uhm, what? The format the password has was in was the /etc/passwd format. Mac OS X does not read from the /etc/passwd file and does not use accounts in that format except in very special circumstances. Like... uhm, I dunno, if you are going to restore the iPhone it might stick a dummy account on the iPhone so it can restore in a special boot mode?

Where exactly would you enter this password, even if it were for the iPhone?
