Exchange Licensing Question

Will I need to purchase an Exchange Server license for each server that runs an Exchange role?

You will need an Exchange Server license for each server on which it runs.  If you run a Client Access Server/Hub Transport/MBX server on one server, you need one license.  If you segregate those roles onto three different servers, you need 3 Exchange Server licenses.

# re: Exchange Licensing Question

Is this true with the Edge server role also? The Edge role cannot be installed on the same server as any other role. Would I be able to buy an Enterprise license for my MBX/Hub server, and a standard license for the Edge server?

Thanks

Reply:

The Exchange Standard Server license will be sufficient in an Exchange Standard installation that is running the Edge role.
