ARC Thoughts

This is a blog on architecture. Focus of this blog is to help technical decision makers with upcoming technologies so they can make informed decisions. Since I'm passionate about retail industry and payments industry, there will some bias towards those areas.
PCI, PCI, PCI, PCI, .. .... .... ..... ....

Everywhere I turn these days the talk is about PCI. May be I'm hanging out with the wrong folks:), but seriously I feel there is more talk about PCI than actual work. I would like to think of this whole thing as "risk to business" and how you take care of it. Every business faces certain risk and the biggest risk is "compromise of customer data" as it'll lead to losing trust with the customers which directly impacts the bottom line of any organization and may even result in closure. So PCI helps a business in many ways by highlighting the areas that critical in protecting the cardholder information. Requirements range from data storage requirements to physical security of the building where customer data is stored.

So love to hear what are the major concerns, so may be we can discuss here on the blog.

PS.: Please remember opinions expressed here are my personal opinions and not of Microsoft as a company.

Moin,

You are right on with this one. This is an emerging trend in both retail and on the banking side. With the credit card industry pushing more and more on merchants and clearing houses to comply I am sure this will be a hot topic for the next few years until security practices and controls are up to the defined PCI standard.
