It was originally started by &lt;a href="http://www.visa.com"&gt;Visa&lt;/a&gt; as &lt;a href="http://www.visa.com/cisp"&gt;CISP&lt;/a&gt;, then followed by &lt;a href="http://www.mastercard.com/sdp"&gt;SDP&lt;/a&gt; from &lt;a href="http://www.mastercard.com"&gt;MasterCard&lt;/a&gt; and all the four major card associations have come together to form the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://usa.visa.com/business/accepting_visa/ops_risk_management/cisp.html?ep=v_sym_cisp"&gt;PCI DSS&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; compliance. Its goal is to protect cardholder information and has created 12 major requirements for merchants, retailers or any other organization that deals with credit card to comply with.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Recently a separate organization is created to channel feedback from retailers and partners.
