WiFi coming to Capital Hill Seattle
So I live up on 10th Ave E in Seattle and a very good friend that lives directly across the street from me. So a few months ago I started to plan "neighbor net". A free wifi service to people in my area.
So what has been done so far: I purchased 2 Cisco Aironet Access points using the SO's (significant others) employee discount. Then I purchased a nice 12dB antenna off eBay. After renting a 120lb 40 foot ladder this weekend the antenna has been mounted at the peak of my 30~ foot roof. It required lots of yelling and shaking (ladders move a lot at 30 feet).
Soon my friend will have an access point on his roof and the first phase of neighbor net will be come live. Share the cost of my internet access with others.
Version 1.0 does not provide all out free access to everyone. But V next will. My hope is that in the next year or so I will be able to sit at Volunteer Park and be able to access my internet connection. Using the Wireless Provisioning Services in XP SP2 I should be able to set up a nice little free Hotspot.
Any one else doing this?
