Cool new search, or google watch out...

I want to get your thoughts. Specifically attempt site specific searches or scoped searchs.  How does this tool compare to google? What do you think of the interface? Performance? Any thoughts at all.  I think this is a great example that there is many ways to create a search experience. Do you find yourself using the UI in ways you wouldn't expect? Can you search "without thought"?

UPDATE:   Just for clarification, this is not a Microsoft product nor is it using the MSN engine. It is using a proprietary method and as far as I know they hope to compete with MSN, Google and yahoo.  The interface that gives the number of results in a particular Directory of a site, is something that many search engine betas are playing with.

Very nice; even though it took some secs extra than normal search engines initially.

I liked the preview section offering small and larger version of preview emebedded. It should have been nice if they provide a link along with larger preview to open a link in a new page. Anyway, by clicking on the link it does.

Another interesting in left pane is refining the search based on category.

Really good work. I could not figure it out what search engine they are using inside. Are they using MSN ?

Thanks

What up J!!
Yeah, this is definitely an interesting beta. I remember reading a research article in grad school that probably sparked this preview/thumb concept. The big problem was that the mini-previews aren't really that useful for most searches. I think they got much better recall results when they began blowing up "significant" text and images in the thumbs.

The quick look isn't all that quick. It reminds me of the http://www.isohunt.com interface though. I think I would rather see rollovers with maybe a little larger thumb or "significant" images/text (ala http://news.yahoo.com/ - rollover the links).

One word: Wow! I never thought that Google could face any real competition for my homepage, but I think Previewseek may be it.

After browsing the Previewseek site for about half an hour, I went back to the regular search engines. Google, MSN and Yahoo all seemed to be missing some essential parts of the search experience.

Apparently this entire site was created by one guy using outsourced programmers from Estonia. First Kazaa, then Skype, now Previewseek ... is Estonia becoming the new tech capital of the world? Where is Estonia anyways?
