Windows XP SP3 Patch now available to MSDN Subscribers - through Top Downloads list

We are pleased to announce that “update only” Windows XP SP3 bits in all languages are now available on MSDN via the Top Downloads location.  Please read the directions in that section or on our FAQ about using Top Downloads.  Windows XP SP3 includes previously released updates for the operating system, as well as a small number of new updates that should not significantly change the Windows XP experience.

As MSDN subscribers, we highly value your feedback regarding Windows XP SP3 availability and one of our top priorities is responding to your requests for Windows XP SP3 bits as quickly as we can.  Over the last few days, the team here worked with our bandwidth and system partners to come up with creative solutions to make Windows XP SP3 available to you as soon as possible.

We still plan to begin rolling out the integrated build for Windows XP SP3during the first week of May.  We value your support and enthusiasm, and will continue to listen to your feedback as we deliver the MSDN Subscription service.

I have not made the move to Windows Vista, so I sure do appreciate Windows XP SP3 to avoid the 80 to 90 Security Updates one needs to install after installing Windows XP SP2.

What a wonderful way to get the download.  IE7 just pops back to the Top Downloads page after selecting the SP3 download.   I actually had to download it in FireFox to get the Link to work.  I suspect the Akamai (sp?) tool is to fault, but for MS to pick a tool that doesn't work with IE....  Shame...  But thanks for getting the download out early.

Just downloaded the SP3 ISO.  How come the FAQ.HTM at the root of the CD refers to SP2?

Well if it worked. That would be great.

Clicking the link just keeps returning to the Top Downloads link. Even with the Akami activex control installed. IE7 !

In the Top Downloads list, you will only see your local language(s) - based on your Ship To address; and English. As was noted in the post, broader availability of all languages is coming soon.

As far as clicking on the link and having the Top Downloads list come back, hopefully you discovered that the Save As dialog box sometimes hides behind other windows and doesn't appear in the task tray. I have asked Akamai about that behaviour as they had changed in earlier so it stopped doing that.

As far as the FAQ referencing SP2 rather than SP3, we alerted the release team about this and they told us it was 'by design". It didn't make sense to me either.

Can you provide some additional information to your announcement?

Those of us with MUI installations of XP are wondering if the Service Pack as provided here covers them, or if we are waiting for another release further down the track as was the case with Vista.

In IE 7 it DOES NOT work. But in Firefox it works OK.

It is SP3 that you downloaded. As noted above, in a few places there are references to SP2 and those are apparently "by design"

While IE7 still doesn't work today, other browsers will. As Paulo mentions.

I also don't understand why SP3 is not availble in downloads via that snazzy webpage download tool - which I still don't like because it's appears to be so limiting.

Why isn't there an integraded Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 ISO build availble at http://licensing.microsoft.com ????

The ISO for XP Professional with Service Pack 2 is the most recent ISO build available for download there. Does this mean that Service Pack 3 still isn't actually being supported for Software Assurance users?
