http://www.interopmonth.com - January 18 – February 11, 2005

So remember in September when I talked about Interop Month? Well it’s happening. We've invited SUN, IBM, BEA, and folks who have worked on various open source development projects to talk about what it takes to make all the various vendor technologies to work in the customer environment. We’re bringing in some heavy weight industry experts as well to talk about and show how to make all this work together. We're going to do our best here to cover some fundamental interoperability issues. This isn't about who's technology is better or upgrading to the newest version of software, but how do we actually make this work together in a heterogeneous technology environment.

Some highlights you can expect:

·         Information on managing a multi-platform data center

·         Information on integrating Java with Windows applications and clients

·         Using web services to extent the life of legacy systems and provide efficient information exchange and functionality

We’ve got a month-long webcast series for you that focus on interoperability – why it matters, what you need to know about Interoperability, common strategies and methods, and guidance on implementation between the major platform vendors.

This series will feature over 40 webcasts, Portable Media Centers as giveaways via random drawing from live attendees and evaluations, and brand-new technical guidance from Microsoft.

So pre-register at www.interopmonth.com to receive a reminder and final webcast schedule in mid-December. We didn’t get IBM or the open source guys to present this time... maybe next time…

Regards,

George, MSDN Webcasts

Exactly who is "Open Source"? Red Hat? Debian? SuSE? OpenSource.org (which has nothing to do with development)? OSDL?

Just saying you have invited "Open Source" says just about nothing about who you have invited.

Hi Rasmus - Rather than have Microsoft define standards on who or what is open source (very bad idea), we've gone out to the industry experts who are already working on Interoperability issues that come up in developement projects with Linux/MS/IBM websphere/Unix systems, to get them to talk about their challenges in exchanging data among disparate systesm.

For example, Dr. Hummel is going to be doing presenatations and demos on how to use mono (http://www.mono-project.com/about/index.html) to build linux and cross platform applications with unprecendented productivity that can still exchange informaiotn with .NET servers and tools.

Rasmus, if you have topics you want to present on or what us to try and find speakers for, let 5-707-6912 or email me at georgeop@microsoft.com. I'm happy to try and see what we can do.
