about the ecosystem that we call JScript

Today Scott Guthrie announced the Beta 1 release of Silverlight 2 at MIX08. One of the components of this release is Managed JScript which as you all know is code name for the JScript implementation that runs on the Dynamic Language Runtime. Managed JScript can be used to create rich and powerful Silverlight 2 applications. It is an ideal choice if you want the comfort of using JScript and the power of running on the CLR engine that sits inside Silverlight 2.
The DLR libraries and the Managed JScript engine are available as part of the Silverlight 2 SDK. In the coming days we will talk about Managed JScript, its features like ability to use .NET libraries, interoperate with other dynamic languages (IronPython, IronRuby) and how we can use it to build rich and performant Silverlight applications.
Watch out for updates on our JScript team blog.
If you are eager to get your hands on these hot bits, here are the links... Silverlight 2 and SDK. Also John Lam is in Vegas to talk about "Microsoft Silverlight and Dynamic Languages". His session will be available online soon.
We also released Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 for Developers today. It has tons of new features. Check it out!

Lang .NET 2008 Symposium is a forum for discussions on programming languages, managed execution environments, compilers, multi language libraries, and integrated development environments. This conference provides an excellent opportunity for programming language implementers and researchers from both industry and academia to meet and share their knowledge, experience and suggestions for future research and development in the area of programming languages.
Pratap Lakshman from my team ( JScript), will be there to talk about the new managed implementation of Jscript codenamed 'Managed JScript'. Be there to see how this baby plugs into the Dynamic Language Runtime ( DLR) and what its capable of.
DLR heavy weights Jim Hugunin and Martin Maly will also be there to share the vision of DLR and how to target it for your favorite language.
Registration is still open. Register today by sending an email to langnet_at_microsoft_dot_com.

John Lam, Dino Viehland and I conducted a session on building languages on top of the Dynamic Language Runtime, at the three day DLR Compiler Dev Labs, that concluded recently. John spoke about IronRuby and how it's being implemented. Dino talked about some of the DLR concepts like dynamic sites. I covered Managed JScript and the challenges we faced implementing it on the DLR. The deck for this talk has been uploaded by John, here. Vince Bonfanti was there and he has posted his thoughts and take aways. He seems to have made great progress in getting BlueDragon implemented on the DLR.
