He ended up shortening my list of integration benefits from four benefits to one. For the record: I agree that he picked the correct benefit

MSDN Blog Postings » Business Case for Integration, part two

PingBack from http://msdnrss.thecoderblogs.com/2007/08/24/business-case-for-integration-part-two/

Maybe because I speak from the BPM viewpoint, but I believe that process metrics are (or should be) a full part of BI.

I also think that #4 is just an offshoot of #2: it's about making the business (and its processes) more agile and efficient.

re: Business Case for Integration, part two

Hi Sandy,

The problem with editing down statements because you "believe" is that your beliefs are not widely shared. When I have spoken to BI folks, many do not see process measurement as a requirement for BI. They view customer data mining as more important. If I put both statements in the text, and get executive sponsorship, then there are no arguments in the trenches.

#2 is about the ability to change.

#4 is about the ability to grow.

If I were to build a scorecard, these two entries would get different metrics. They vary independently. Some 'best practices' serve both, but only if applied to both. Stating both goals allows us to drive teams to apply their efforts to both measurables and therefore have both effects.

They are different.
