If you are an Independent Software Vendor using or working with Open XML documents in your products, you should visit the Open XML Community web site and join the community. The Open XML community supports Ecma International's decision to submit Open XML to the International Standards Organization (ISO/IEC) and believes this will bring additional choice and innovation to the marketplace. About Open XML

Ecma Office Open XML ("Open XML") is an international, open standard for word-processing documents, presentations, and spreadsheets that can be freely implemented by multiple applications on multiple platforms. Microsoft Office (2007, 2003, XP, 2000), OpenOffice Novell Edition, open-source project Gnumeric, Neo-Office 2.1 and PalmOS (Dataviz) already support Open XML. Corel has announced Open XML support for WordPerfect 2007 and developers worldwide are building solutions using OpenXML.

The work to standardize Open XML was carried out by Ecma International via its Technical Committee 45 (TC45), which includes representatives from Apple, Barclays Capital, BP, The British Library, Essilor, Intel, Microsoft, NextPage, Novell, Statoil, Toshiba, and the United States Library of Congress. It was designed to provide unique benefits not offered by existing ISO standards, including the ability to enable high fidelity migration from existing binary formats to XML based formats.
