Made it to Singapore with atleast 6 hours of sleep on a 10 hour flight, watched two movies - nothing great ("Untraceable and something I can't remember"). Its 37 degrees here with rain and thunderstorms, something you don't see everyday!!

The Team - Yugan, Stephen, Louis, Janina and Warwick all decided to take the free 2 hour tour of Singapore which includes a bus and a boat ride. Paul and myself enjoyed the culinary delights Terminal 3 had on offer. Next stop Paris, France only another 12-14 hours to go.

The results were very close with a huge influx of voting in the last week of the competition.

Down to the last few days it became a competitive race between the different institutions, Victoria University, University of Canterbury and Massey University. In the end they could only be one winner.

The winning team of this competition received a collection of hardware and software prizes as well a secured phone interview with two of our Industry Partners, Intergen and Provoke.

The FINAL RESUTLS FOR THE 2008 "PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD"

On Thursday the 1st of May four teams were brought up to Microsoft New Zealand's Auckland office in preparation for the Imagine Cup 2008 NZ Finals.

The agenda was chocka block, teams preparing, coding, testing, and practising on Thursday afternoon, followed by a finalist dinner party held at the WESTIN. Teams outside of Auckland were put up at the beautiful 5 star hotel, the WESTIN.

The event started off with morning rain and an early 7am breakfast for all teams in the MS Office. Following this, teams tried to calm their nerves as they awaited to present their projects in front of a line of high profile judges.

Imagine Cup NZ Finals - Judges

Rob O'Neil - Editor, Computerworld
Andy Hamilton - CEO - Icehouse
Mark Thomas - Founder, Right Hemisphere
Peter Macaulay - President Internet New Zealand

Teams had 20 minutes to present their project and 10 minutes of intense questioning by the judges. Judges had the gruelling task of assessing the teams and deciding on the best team to send to World Wide Finals in Paris, France.

Once all teams had presented, the media, public, and industry members had the opportunity to get a close look in to each teams project. Each team had the opportunity to show case their project and engage with the public for 1 hour before the judges announced the results.

In the final minutes leading up to the announcement, both the Managing Director of Microsoft New Zealand (Kevin Akhurst) and Singapore Airlines (Tein Po Looi) shared a few words of inspiration with the Imagine Cup Teams.

Thanks to all our sponsors who made this event a huge success, WESTIN, SINGAPORE AIRLINES, INTERGEN, PROVOKE.

THIS YEARS FINAL RESULTS:

The Imagine Cup Preliminary Finals were held on the 3rd of April last Thursday. Ten teams did their best to present their ideas and visions to 4 industry judges who would in turn decide their fate in making it to the finals. It was a difficult ask for the judges to narrow down the teams to the top three, in the end the decision was made to have 4 teams, with rankings of 1st, 2nd and 3rd equal. Below are the team photos in no particular order. Check out our Imagine Cup site for more info on their ideas.
