I am a paid Hotmail customer not a FREE one.
I am also a paid Yahoomail customer.
Yahoomail has done a 10 x better job and never lost my mail.

In 3 instances Hotmail destroyed large % of my mail despite my paying for plenty of storage and not being at limit.

Gmail has superb interface (10 x better thatn regular mail clients I use) and hs given me much more storage for free than Hotmail ever has and Hotmail counters witha mere 250megs?

I am ditching my paid YahooMail and Hotmail account and if Gmail ever offers paid options I am first in line to pay them. They treat me better than Hotmail ever did and proposes to treat me. Too little too late.

Sorry to hear that, and sorry for your problems. Hotmail will get better, I promise. But it seems in your case the damage was done. Just so you know, isolated incidents like this can occur. We do everything we can to prevent them from happening. And there is no guarantee this won't happen with your gmail account either.

Everybody has a pair of hotmail accounts plenty of spam, every day.

I have two and only open it to maintain open.

No offense but what percentage of your base are paid hotmail customers?

My free hotmail account still shows 2 megs which is the primary reason I haven't used it since getting a gmail account. Also the longer we use gmail and the longer we have access to instant sort and subtle advertising the less likely we are to go back to those giant banner ads.

Winning this game is quite simple:

1. Eliminate or make very subtle almost all advertising.

2. Chill out on the branding.

3. Let us search our mail as fast as google.

4. Do not deactivate accounts if we are traveling for 2 months.

5. At leat 250megs of space for free accounts. 1 Gig would be better.

6. Better syncing options with outlook/entourage address books.

Don't get me wrong, I like hotmail, I want to go back, in general I like the interface, but I'm not going to pay for hotmail account on top of my internet service with surcharge for dsl, on top of my phone phone bill. Gmail has been improving in leaps and bounds in a way I haven't seen hotmail change in years. You guys had better watch your back! Somebody's about to eat your lunch.

I can't understand some of the comments here. One guy buys a yahoo account and a hotmail account? what did one paid account offer you that the other didn't? If your major gripe was the space and hotmail losing your message, why are you going to buy a gmail account after having one for free, its already more storage then your paid accounts?

2 megs isn't a lot of mail space, but if you are storing more than 20 megs of email it seems like you are using it for file storage. 250 megs is much more than too much for me.

I personally have 7 hotmail accounts that I use for various reasons, using Outlook to retrieve all the messages. The accounts that I've never given to anyone have never gotten spam. Hotmail doesn't beget spam, you giving the email address out begets spam.

I got several hotmail accounts and Verizon DSL with MSN premium. Will these new feature be avaible to the hotmail accounts that I linked to the MSN premium account?

You didn't tell me your email. My hotmail is jlsglynn@hotmail.com. As far as a screen shot, nothing to look at other then an empty inbox.

I paid more for Hotmail and YahooMail to have ability to send much larger attachments, more storage and a few other perks.

Hotmail I paid first and I paid for Yahoo second as I was dissapointed with what Hotmail did for pay. Until recently I was never dissapointed with YahooMail at paid or FREE level but the Google search and Web Email UI are so useful and YahooMail filter limits that make it so I cannot have enogh filters at any level of account mean Yahoo is one the "I better get rid of it list"....

Paid Hotmail was because teir inital limit (2 mbs) was so slow a few SPAM awith l/areg attachments would fill my hotmail if I did not check every 2-3 days sometimes I go 2 weeks between checking.

Paid Yahoomail was because when I discovered how bad Hotmail was to even their paid customers and how slow deliverly (incoming and outgoing to Hotmail often were delayed by many hours or Day or two - YahooMail was instant consistently) meant I could not count on ANYONE sending me a mail to Hotmail and recievenig it a few minutes after they sent. I paid YahooMail because I needed more than their 6 megs of Storage (I opted for 100 megs) ame was happy to support a vendor that offered substatially better quality on both FREE and PAID accounts.

I will not ever renew my paid Hotmail because the 3 major fiascos that cause me to loose vital mail (I was paying to protect) and glacially slow incoming mail (people send to my htmail I recieve a day later some thing comes to Yahoo in 2 minutes). I unfortunately have to keep 1 of my hotmail accounts and just check more frequently as hgue SPAMS fill it and then senders got "Mailbox full messages) because a few network solutions accounts they have been a nightmare about changing my email address on go there. If I can change those I will even ditch that 1 free account.

The reason I am willing to pay for Gmail will not be MORE storage - its a matter of supporting/rewarding the company that is doing something useful for me for ethical reasons. Google deserves a donation for giving me osmething FREE others aren't matching even when I pay them.

I genearally believe in redunancy and have an email alias 911@learnasp.com that goes to Hotmail AND Yahoo AND a POP account. There are tmimes I don't have POP access (or looking at POP through browesr when I am literally on 1200 listserversmakes it hard to find non listserver mail) and Hotmail is down that Yahoo had the time sensitve mail I desparately needed. I hoped Hotmail would be useful in case Yahoomail was down. Too date YahooMail has never been down whereas Hotmail has several times. Redunancy to recieve time sensitve mail is important to me. POP web access when I am on road is not practical to find mails sent me when listserv volume I recieve is so high. When I ditch Hotmail I will still want a reduntant extra account in case YahooMail is down, I can't get to POP or wade through it and I nede a mail someone sent me 5 minuts ago. Sine Yahoomail feature wise is so far behind Gmail I am looking ot keep Gamil and ditch Hot and Yahho and choose a more featrue rich one to accobpany my Gmail account so 911@learnasp.com can go two reliable feature rich places.

Yes I was using it for storage and the SPAM I do get does eat up storage quick so paying for more allowed me to use it as storage except they did delete my mail frequently and randomly so my attempt to use it as storage failed. My attempt to use Yahoo for storage suceeded beautifully.

I never complained about SPAM I said that it is a FACT that it arrives and the only answer to keeping it from filling my storage and having senders get mailbox full messages is to buy more storage which I did. While you may not have to give out your email the accounts I do alias there are listed on hundreds of groups, lists and NNTP because I am a public figure people need to reach and that account is also a nobody alias while I have never published emailaddresses like hugedickintinygirls@learnasp.com or webmaster@learnasp.com or admin@learnasp.com SPAM programs tend to try all kinds of addresses.

I do not complain about the SPAM as it is a side effect of being reachable and using my real email on 100s of forums/lists/NNTP/my own website but the quantity and size in k of it forces mo ta have a paid account that answers you WHY I PAY FOR IT it and the free storage levels are not sufficient.

BTw my email address is 911@learnasp.com in case you do want to contact me although current indications are you just want to say the other guys might fail me and have no intrest in making up for the failure or keeping in touch with me and encouraging me to report things so you can improve service.

I am aware there are no guarantees but satstically YahooMail (which I MAY keep) never gave me such poor send and recieve lags and never delete mail although I know there is no guarantee they won't. Just my experience they have not failed or damaged my data and you guys have. I know the facts so far neither Yahoo nor Google has deleted mail or had send/recieve lags or absurd limits on my activity and you guys have. I am aware there are no guarantees but a few years with Yahoo and Hotmail and a few months with Gmail show me that guarantee or not they do the job and have not yet done anything that has caused me pain. Hotmil has casued me pain too often so I plan to ditch it as soon as I can get the few remainig Internic accounts off it those people make such changes a b**** often.

Google.com has had obscenely high uptime and great searches BUT the various MS sites I frequent have down times (10 - 30% in my anecdotal experience) and the various MS searches are worthless - overall I am happy with MS track record because I don't demand 100% uptime and don't use them for searching . I am sympathetic with scaling problems but it does mean credibility wise I take any MS promises they can deliver reliable fast Hotmail with a grain of salt until send and recieve lags are not the norm.

I am a MSN Beta Tester and therefore use Hotmail. However I also have yahoo Mail plus
When the premium accounts upgrades this fall I'll get those 2gigs...i already have them in Yahoo Mail
What I don't like about Hotmail is that they dont provide as many features as Yahoo (dispoable emails, stationnaries, from line customization....)
I would like to make my Yhoo Mail my default email but I simpley cannot set my msn account as pop under yahoo Mail plus...I have like 600 emails in my hotmail that I would like to transfert to my Yahoo account. i tried to set both account in outlook and drag and dropping the hotmail messages to the Yahoo inbox folder but they would not upload themselves online...Any idea? (apart from forwarding each messages one by one!!!)

Me agree with Charles M. Carroll.

Same thing happened with me, I got two leads of job and the employer try to send me the email and it bouncing back, I paid for the MSN thingy and i am the PAID SUBSCRIBER!!!

Me is developer, usign Microsoft Technologies, and have blind faith on their other stuff like Hotmail and MSN Explorer (that really really sucks trust me!) but i think I better keep my feet on other's email services and browser thingy but keep developing on Microsoft platform, me sure one day Microsoft will learn how to be like GOOGLE.... coz GMAIL rocks! and totally ROCKS! did i miss to say "GMAIL ROCKS DUDE"
