Permissions for SharePoint site notebooks

Hi. Diane here with a quick heads up for anyone who's been using the Notes.Read or Notes.ReadWrite permission scope to access SharePoint site-hosted notebooks in our preview APIs.

You'll need to change over to the Notes.Read.All or Notes.ReadWrite.All scope. These scopes are intended to support organization-level access.

Scope

Permission and description

Notes.Read.All

View OneNote notebooks in your organization

Applies to notebooks you have access to outside your OneDrive for Business.

Can view the contents of notebooks and sections in all notebooks that the signed-in user has access to.

Cannot create new pages; modify existing pages; access password protected sections.

Notes.ReadWrite.All

View and modify OneNote notebooks in your organization

Applies to notebooks you have access to outside your OneDrive for Business.

Can view the titles of notebooks and sections; view and modify all pages; create new pages in all notebooks that the signed-in user has access to.

Cannot access password protected sections.

We'll stop supporting the Notes.Read and Notes.ReadWrite scopes for access to SharePoint notebooks this week. Since SharePoint support is still in Preview, we don't expect this will be a big hit for anyone.

Thanks!
