This engine takes advantage of Active Scripting to integrate with Microsoft Windows so it can be used in all the same places Jscript and VBscript can. It is designed from the ground up using C++. The parser was implemented using Bison and Flex (also known as Lex and Yacc)."

Check it out:
http://opascalscript.sourceforge.net/

There is also a cool history of Object Pascal on this page.

Announcing: Testing for and Responding to Network Connections in the .NET Compact Framework

Testing for and Responding to Network Connections in the .NET Compact Framework (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnnetcomp/html/NetworkComponent.asp)

Although I don't know who is responsible for all of this code (I would like to give them credit for it), it appears that Larry O'Brien is at least responsible for some of it. From what I have seen this stuff looks really cool - thanks Larry!

If you are new to the Real Connect series, start here to familiarize yourself with the code and mobilized software principles.

Version 1.5 of RealConnect extends this scenario by enhancing the application to be fully location-aware. Version 1.5 also includes a Pocket PC version of RealConnect, and illustrates how an application can be factored for these devices.

Take advantage of this entire series, including the application source code, which is freely reusable.

Whitepapers

“The FotoVision sample allows you to easily share photos on the web and demonstrates a variety of .NET technologies including Windows Forms, ASP.NET, Web services, and the .NET Compact Framework. It consists of a desktop, web, and Pocket PC sample applications. This paper provides information so you can get the most from the FotoVision web application.“

The FotoVision home page:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/smartclient/codesamples/fotovision will go live within a few hours. In the meantime you can start pulling this sample apart by accessing these MSDN library articles directly:

Hi guys,

Sorry for the performance of the Learn247 site when trying to download the WeRock247 code recently, we have been inundated with users looking to download the code and it has slowed us down a little.

I am often asked when the DVD will be available and the answer is soon. I am working with the relevant people to get the DVD orderable and am trying to get this resolved ASAP. The same goes for the first project called Football247.NET. We put a lot of effort into the projects and we want to share them with as many people as possible so are working hard on this.

The WeRock247 DVD contains over 3.5 gigs of information devoted to building Smart Client applications, and where possible we have hosted the content on the Learn247 site. Some things like the audio presentations were just too big to be useful online so will be exclusively available on the DVD.

We are working on the follow up title called WeFly247.NET which as the name suggests is based around an airline. We will be providing 3 applications covering mobile, office, tablet, smart client, winforms and we will be looking for the community to extend the scenario with additional applications for our airline. We are almost complete with the code and hope to release the in the next few weeks.

If you keen to get involved then take a look at the design documents at:
http://www.learn247.net/weFly247/dev/index.html so you can see our plans for the project.

You can also get some screenshots of what the applications will look like at: http://www.learn247.net/community/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=199

Don't forget to register at www.learn247.net as we will be making the WeFly247 beta code exclusively available to registered users first.

Enjoy the projects.

Lester Madden

Alternative download site for We Rock 247 .NET

The original download location for We Rock 247 .NET has not been performing so well due to demand.
“This article shows how to port the drum machine described in "Building a Drum Machine with DirectSound" to the .NET Compact Framework so that it can be run on the Pocket PC. The original code is written in C# and uses managed DirectSound to render an audio stream that is synthesized on the fly. When porting the code to the .NET Compact Framework, managed DirectSound is replaced by native calls to the WaveOut API.“
