Ori Gershony's blog

  • Leaving Microsoft

Several months have passed since my last blog posting.  A lot has happened in my life in that time, including a new baby (Oren Nathaniel Gershony, born on the fourth of July), parental leave, and now a new job.  I recently accepted a job offer from Google, Kirkland.  My last day at Microsoft is Friday October 19th.

As everyone noticed, we never shipped the Commerce Extensions CTP.  Since my MIX talk, Microsoft announced the Commerce Server product roadmap.  Ryan Donovan’s blog is the best place to learn more about this: http://blogs.msdn.com/rdonovan/archive/2007/08/08/in-depth-commerce-server-product-roadmap-information-desk-program-announcement.aspx.  Please monitor http://blogs.msdn.com/commerce for the latest on Commerce Server.

The Commerce Extensions technology will eventually manifest itself in the roadmap, but is available for demonstration purposes now!  We have a site on winisp that is hosting the bits that we demoed at MIX:  http://catalogsample.members.winisp.net/ .  I’m still super excited about the future of this work, and am confident that this will be an incredible e-commerce platform.

Since I’m no longer involved with the Commerce work at Microsoft, please send all future questions to csid at microsoft.com.  My personal email will continue to be ori_gershony at hotmail.com.

  • Welcome to my blog!

I'd like to welcome everyone to my blog!  I've actually had this blog online for a while now, but never got around to posting anything to it.  However, I just gave a talk at MIX '07 and posted my blog's URL in one of the slides, so it's time to start writing.  :)

Here is the abstract for the talk:

Building Rich, Interactive E-commerce Applications Using ASP.NET and Silverlight
Speaker(s): Ori Gershony - Microsoft, Mark Townsend - Microsoft
Audience(s): Business Decision Maker, Designer, Developer
Come get a sneak preview of the direction that Microsoft is taking to extend ASP.NET to build Rich Interactive applications.  In this session, we'll focus on e-commerce scenarios enabling developer and designers to create easily extensible and customizable applications that use .NET and Silverlight as the foundation.  See some of the initial concepts currently being developed and find out how you can be part of the community that shapes future extensions to ASP.NET.

About me:  I've been a developer at Microsoft for just under 10 years.  Currently I'm the development manager for the Commerce and Hosting team.  In previous jobs I was the development lead for the CLR JIT compiler team, and an SDE in the Windows team.

Feel free to mail me or post questions or suggestions on areas that you'd like to see me write about.  My blog will be mostly about Commerce and Hosting, though I might also write about interesting technologies that I'm learning about.
