The question you get asked most often by your customers about Unified Communications

Is it real?

A lot of customers hear about it and think it's just a new buzz word for VoIP or IP Tel.  A lot believe desktop messaging is UC or IM (which they then say is free) is UC.  As you explain the full solution encompassing presence, voice, video, IM, collab tools, device agnostic, and profile management they start to see UC as something quite different and then want to understand more about it, how it works, where the real underlying value is and what it takes to get there.

Other than your own organisation, which company do you collaborate the most with around Unified Communications?

We probably collaborate mostly with Nortel.  We run the same unified comms solutions as them and use it a lot to improve the ways our teams collaborate.  The additional productivity, ease and intelligence achieved is extremely valuable.

Your bold prediction for unified communication is that by 2010 …

We will communicate without boundaries, we will have a single contact address and will be reached on multiple devices at anytime, anywhere by that address.  The technology exists today but it needs to penetrate devices.
