I think the arrival of the Connector is great news. But I have to admit that the options for full access are a bit strange. In the past there was Hotmail Plus, but that seems to be gone. If I understand things correctly, there is really no plan that makes sense for a single individual email user right now that would allow sync of everything, right? MSN Premium has lots of stuff I am not at all interested in and is quite expensive, same for the two Office Live packages. I strongly urge you to bring back a simple plan for a single hotmail account holder to get full sync access that is comparable to the old Hotmail Plus!

Also, the Office Live thing does not seem to guarantee sync. I tried the following: I created a new Office Live Premium account (using the German beta program which is free at this point until it RTMs). I then added an existing hotmail user account to that Office Live package as someone who has access to the Live site. When I log into the hotmail account now, it says that it is powered by Office Live Mail. But still, I do not get sync with the Outlook Connector of the calendar. What is going on?

What do I have to do if I want to move some of the above mentioned great features of Outlook (which aren't synchronized to the cloud) from one machine to the other? For example, I guess withouth backing up/exporting-importing, I would lose my todo list, my quick flags, my categories, my rules, etc.

Otherwise, the connector's working great!

But one little thing, if this tool would be still free available for none Premium users in the future,

(I am not completly sure about this...) not hotmail premium users get a warning icon in the toolbar about the synch with the calendar. I think it could be a good idea to make it possible to disable this warning icon for the calendar check. This way the users could see if something goes wrong with the contacts or the mails, at the moment I always see this icon, if there is an error or not.

Too bad MSN Hotmail Plus does not allow sync via Microsoft Office Outlook Connector. It's really bad news.

Is this a COM add-in? It does not appear in the list of COM Add-ins after install. Why?

I have some problem using the software. I am unable to send out messages. They stay in the Inbox. Any solutions? Otherwise everything works fine.

I thought for a few hours this connector would be the solution to my problems. But then I discovered that it doesn't work if you've assigned more than one category to an item. That means I cannot use it, because my system depends on using more than one category.

It's such a pity! Would be so great if it could.

Are you going to improve the web interface for tasks and notes? Searching? Filtering?

it appears two times here (Outlook 2007)

1. Add-Ons: msncon32.DLL COM Addin for Microsoft Office Outlook connector

2. Exchange Client Extension: Outlook Connector Extensions

Perhaps some Vista security settings prevents you from see the Add-Ons?

The new connector will sync mail and contacts for free, for all Windows Live Hotmail users (Hotmail Plus included).  Hotmail Plus subscriptions provide extra storage amongst other benefits.  

MSN Premium, Office Live Essentials or Office Live Premium accounts are required for calendar sync.

Frederic MENI and Davidacoder, if you are having difficulty synchronizing mail and contacts with a Hotmail Plus (or free Hotmail) account, make sure the following are true:

1. You are using the latest, beta version of the connector (http://g.live.com/1OLC12/1033)

2. Your account has been updated to Windows Live Hotmail

If you are still having trouble, please consult the Frequently Asked Questions (also at http://g.live.com/1OLC12/1033) or contact Microsoft support so we can get you up and running again (http://support.live.com).

@Jared: There is no FAQ at the link you provided and the support page doesn't have an option for Outlook Connector.

Also, no offense, but it appears you didn't really understand our point... The question was not whether one could sync mail and contacts with Hotmail Plus. Essentially, I had two points:

- Why is there no subscription plan that makes sense for an indiviual hotmail mailbox holder?

- Calender sync doesn't work with Office Live subscriptions either.

The first is the normail Message-ID from the Hotmail servers; the latter is the one that my Exchange server sets for messages from me. I assume you're aware that certain things barf when they see two Message-IDs? I have a web forum that won't post messages from me when I send Hotmail messages through my Outlook b/c of this.

Now I had been using HTTP with Outlook and had hoped the Outlook Connector would've fixed this issue, but alas, no such luck! So while I know this seems like a connector issue, it did happen before the Connector with HTTP access to Hotmail too.

Is it an Outlook issue, or something you guys can control...? Just didn't know where to go to get this fixed as regular MSN/Hotmail support would probably be pretty useless, heh. If someone can, feel free to reply back to me with more info/directions; thanks so much, and keep up the good work!

Any thoughts? Not really a Connector issue since it happened with HTTP access to my Hotmail Plus account too; more of an issue either with Hotmail or Outlook huh? I don’t know if 2007 still does it; guess I can upgrade and see, though I don’t suspect the behavior will change.

Whilst it's great to see this new connector I was very disappointed that as a Windows Live Hotmail Plus user I can't make use of the Calendar feature.

I really have absolutely no use for the Live Hotmail Calendar because it doesn't synchronise with my Outlook Calendar!

I see no point at all in paying at least six times as much to get given some set of bloat such as antivirus and a firewall, or a web site, just to connect to my calendar!

How many Hotmail Plus users can there be that makes this so uneconomical?

My Outlook is not able to sync with the Hotmail account. If I try to do a Send-Receive, it says that "The requested task cannot be completed on this account". The error code is: 0x80040102.

Also a quick question. How can I view the contacts/calendar which are on my desktop and also use the Hotmail account? Because if I add the Hotmail account as a default account, then I cannot see the contacts/calendar.

First off, great job of this new product!

I agree is would be nice to provide a more simple subscription model for those who just want calendar, task, note sync without all the fluff. Maybe an a la carte menu.

Warning to All using Outlook with Business Contact Manager.

Downloading the Connector will remove all your existing links to Business Projects, Opportunities, etc.

Within Business Projects the linked emails will be listed but all attachment to those emails will be lost.

Microsoft, please help.

After some weeks of testing I have found only one "bug", I am not completly sure if the trouble make the Connector or OneCare, but it's impossible for me to exit Outlook. It's stays in the taskmanager.

therefore Outlook check always the mailboxes for errors.

Interestingly, I have installed the connector beta, and it appears to be sync'ing mail and calendar correctly.  However, I do not have a connector menu item or toolbar. I am running Outlook 2007 on Vista with OneCare.

Based on the above comment, I looked for MSNCON32.DLL com add-in, and it is not loading.  I found two (same version) on my hard drive and tried to load it, to no avail.

Any thoughts on what has happened here?

Left support request at the link above, but this seems to be a recurring problem to connect. I've been using the connector for a few years now, and this update has completely broken my connection - I cannot download ANY email from one of my hotmail accounts that has been transitioned to Live Mail. A new account worked fine. Is there a problem with older Hotmail accounts?

I have been using the Outlook Connector beta with Outlook 2007 for almost a month now to check a Hotmail account and Office Live Mail account.  Seems to be synching well.  I enjoy being able to flag and put categories on my messages and sort accordingly.

The main issue that I have noticed is that there is no desktop notification when a new message arrives.  I have ensured that desktop notifications are enabled and I even tried setting up a new rule for desktop notifications for the accounts associated with Outlook Connector.  Is this a known issue or am I alone on this?  Are desktop notifications possible with Outlook Connector?

I have the same problem of Maurice Leahy.

Everything syncs fine (be excepted for colour categories, due to a Pocket MSN sync involved in the process.....I'm investigating on it).

But after a month of proper work, I tried to remove all flags from messages (flags made messages populate my "to-do" list avoiding its normal use).

This wide removing (more than 1000 items) caused a first set of errors, their explanation is that sync procedures can't manage "too many elements" in a single session.

I then reinstalled everything erasing registry voices under HKCU/..../Windows Messaging Subsystem/profiles, but the actual error I get is:

I contacted the Live Hotmail Plus support, and after some mail exchanges, they suggest me to ask here for an help (https://support.microsoft.com/common/survey.aspx?scid=sw;en;1214&showpage=1).

Nevertheless, this is a generic feedback form I correctly filled but it doesn't seem technical and specific.

I even contacted the Office Live Support Team that is fast, reliable and supportive.

But Live Hotmail is not a product managed by them (even if I'm an IT consultant that substantially sells OL to firms and SMEs, and I collected dozens of mails with them in order to solve sync problems between Office Live Essential Trial domains and OC as well OC Beta).

So they send me to the generic support page that asks for a Product ID in order to proceed.

Unfortunately OC Beta doesn't own a PID and neither that channel results available to desperate customers.

So, I'm a terrible fan of OC. According to me is the "Exchange Light" of the future.

But I'm not able to find a support team to refer to.

So, Jared. If you have a suggestion to solve this problem or where to addrees it, so I can manage even other OC Beta problem experienced by potential OC Beta customers (already informed that we're on a Beta with all its possible side effects), please write a line on this blog or send me a note to stefania.castelli@hotmail.com.

After install Outlook connector I subscribed to live mail plus in order to have access to mapi connection, but the error remains there.

Looking for the solution I did uninstall and install again, delete an add the account, sent two tickets to live mail support an his response was: "...add a new http account..." (sic.)

I think this connector is a great product and I know that it is a beta, but the required hotmail support is a nightmare.

I would like to use the connector, if you have the solution... please share with us.

It's five 'o clock in the morning here, not so far from Venice (Italy).

My OC Beta started unaspectedly to (testually): "Downloading Full Items in Inbox: (44 of 3249)".

Oh What a happiness!!! I love you MS!!

For days and days error 3206 persecuted my quiet use of Outlook....

My last action, I don't know if this is the real source of this miracle but sure the most probable (having mailed unsuccesfully any kind of Customer Care at MS), has been to call for an help here:

I'm having a problem with rules I'm creating from my office live accounts in outlook 2007.  I have set up rules to automatically direct specific emails to certain folders in my main outlook Inbox.  This works fine when run manually, but will not automatically process the new emails as they arrive.

History: I have a paid MSN account and have been using connector with Outlook 2003 without problems since earlier this year.

I recently downloaded the MS Office 2007 trial, including Outlook 2007, along with the new connector. Since installing Outlook 07 and the new connector, I can't get my MSN mail to sync with Outlook.

I tried a couple of things:

1) I uninstalled the 2007 connector and switched back to the Outlook 2003 connector (which is supposed to work with OL 2007, and is not beta)

2) Even though I had no reason to believe it would make any difference, I decided to switch from "classic" MSN (web-based) to Windows Live.

Neither of these worked.

Anyone have any more ideas?

Started using Outlook Connector Beta with Outlook 2003 and Live Hotmail to read emails. Worked satisfactorily for a while and then about a week or so ago stopped working, apparently because a subscription is required. The blurb says it should work without a subscription and it used to work. What has changed? The Detailed Report gives the following information.

I'm getting no synchronization with the 3206 error also. Anyone fixed this or is it time for me to go back to v1?

For all those experiencing the dreaded 5102 or 3206 errors and unable to use the "new" Outlook Connector, I noticed on the download page that MS is offering the older version. I uninstalled the "new" one and re-installed the 11/2006 version on Outlook 2003 and I can now check my email again after nearly a week in browser email hell. I was just about to dump Hotmail and use my ISP.... A error says that "Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription Please sign up at blablabla" Is Live Mail Plus required for using this tool?

My Connector was working fine with OL 2003, but since a couple of days it has stopped syncing and gives this error message:

Anyone has any ideas? I've tried restarting OL many times.

okay...my synhing error was resolved awhile ago without any effort on my part (probably some back-end server based issue) and I continued using the connector until 2 weeks ago when it stopped syncing with the following error:

I signed up with Hotmail Plus.

Very very poor.

All the sync allows you todo is Edit your Hotmail Contacts and View emails within outlook.

You cannot:

1. Sync your outlook calendar with MSN Calendar

2. Sync your contacts between your private folder and hotmail folder

3. Cannot Sync Tasks or Notes.

Microsoft is very behind the times.

The best solution is something like atmail that syncs outlook and the web beautifully.

Sometime after July 30th, the Outlook connector beta stopped working. I get the following error:

Robbie asked a question back on July 15th and I was hoping to find an answer to it. While the connector works great (using Vista & Outlook 2007), when new mail arrives with my MS Custom Domain Live Mail, I do not receive any notification via sound, desktop, etc. What is the solution to this? Dunno why but i did download latest version of outlook connector, installed it but when i start outlook 2007, i see no options menu for outlook connector.

I bought a new Dell with Vista and Outlook 2007 three months ago. I transferred Email files from MSN on my old computer to the new Outlook. (I have MSN Premium). After an agonizing two weeks (with all sorts of people trying to me), we were able to get Outlook 2007 working with Outlook connector 2003. The problem I still have is that any message over 1 MB times out, gets hung up in the outbox and keeps resending. If I try to drag and drop a big message into MSN files, the same thing happens. This happens even if I take McAfee off my computer. Will Outlook Connector 2007 fix this problem? I am afraid to jump in without some guidance.

SAF, I'm sorry, I missed your comment from July 27th.  The particular issue you enountered is due to an invalid entry in your junk mail list.  I suggest clearing your junk list, rebooting and syncing with the connector.

Thanks for your response. The problem went away when I upgraded to the new Outlook Connector.

However, now I have another problem. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to put it, but I'll do it anyways. I used to sync my phone, Nokia N70, with Outlook using the Nokia PC Suite. But ever since I have changed to the Outlook Connector, the sync has stopped working. Instead I get error messages like: "PC Sync was unable to access a valid Outlook profile. Please run Outlook and configure your user profile."

I have changed the profile and the folders in PC Suite to the right ones.

I've been using the (no longer beta?) connector that I just downloaded today from a link in the latest MS Downloads notification email. I don't get any errors, but I also don't get any of my emails.  Fascinating.

I assume this is some issue with my company's firewall, but searches have turned up no help for troubleshooting.

Think I will save a lot of time and hassle and just uninstall.

Installed the Connector but have not been able to connect even once.  Get "not available" error and when I look at the account it shows database as "not available".  What gives?  Thanks.

Viewing a Hotmail calendar in Outlook should be a free feature.

So I was having issues with "Network Operation failed" and I was using the latest connector.

I'm starting to believe that is may have something to do with maybe the Refresh of the folders or something around that area.  I removed my hotmail account, and created a new one (via Outlook Connector), and it was 1) able to refresh/sync the folders and 2) pull down all the mail.

When I first installed OC, I was mucking around in it and was deleting a bunch of folders, and moving mail around... I wonder if that caused it to get into a state that kept it from sync'ing correctly.

I have been using Outlook Connector for a while in my XP box along with Outlook 2007. A few days ago, I bought a Windows Vista Premium box and installed the Outlook 2007 along with the Outlook Connector.

However, I have not been able to synchronize my Live Hotmail Account. The outlook connector keeps asking me for my account password and after about 3 attempts, it fails saying it couldn't sign in to my hotmail account. In addition, if I try to log in to www.hotmail.com using the same credentials or check my emails in my old box with Windows XP, I find no issues at all.

The only difference between the two scenarios is the operational system as both are in the same network; the Windows XP box works fine and the Windows Vista box fails.

Any suggestions?

Is there any way at all to get the OC to connect automatically, instead of having to hit "Sign In" every time?

Jayson, that's entirely possible.  Try removing the connector account in Outlook, rebooting Outlook and then adding it again.  That should hopefully let the connector sync again.

Sam, what version of the connector do you have installed?  You can check by clicking the Outlook Connector menu and selecting "About Outlook Connector".

Kevin, I'm not sure what you're asking.  The connector should automatically sign you in. When you are prompted to sign in, are you asked for your credentials?

well since there is no fix for this here is what I had to do for all those who are looking to rid themselves outlook connector:

uninstall outlook connector from the control panel

uninstall outlook from your install cd

remove all keys in the registry that have "msncon.dll" in them

remove all keys in the registry that have "outlook connector" in them

remove all .pst files

remove all temp files

use a registry cleaner *(i use RegCleaner 4.2 by Jouni Vuorio)

restart

reinstall office outlook

now you will be able to get into outlook and the plug-in becomes moot....but these are not by any means all the files and keys related.  Anyone want to help me clean it up?  That would be a nice consolation prize for Microsoft's failure to have proper uninstall information.

The connector was working fine for me up until today. However, now it is not updating any of my accounts with new messages. When I logged into Hotmail this morning I had 5 new messages. As of yet, these haven't appeared in Outlook. I can send emails, but not receiving any.

I have tried reinstalling the Outlook Connector, but this hasn't fixed anything.

Forgot to mention, I'm using Outlook 2007 and version 12.0.4518.1063 of Outlook Connector.

I've had enough. I'm a subscriber, for the next 5 minutes at least. I can't sync at all. I've followed the various instructions. I'm uninstalling, cancelling my subscription and forgetting this. I can't spend another half a day getting this *&^ to work.

Outlook 2007 recently instructed me to update Outlook Connector when I logged in.  I have been using OC for several months now to synch my Hotmail and Office Live Mail (Basics) account to Outlook.  After follwing the upgrade prompts my Office Live Mail account quit synching and a message pops up saying that I must now be a subscriber.  My Hotmail account is still synching.

I have tried removing the Office Live Mail account, reopening Office 2007 and adding the account again but I still get the same message.  Unfortunately all my emails (with flags) are now gone.  So does this mean that OC will no longer support Office Live Mail Basic as it has done for several months now?

I too forgot to mention that OC upgraded to version 12.0.4518.1063.

So what's the deal with BETA? why isn't the BETA available for download anymore. I need to be able to use the sharepoint features with office live..!!!

What's going on?

OC was working with version 12.0.4518.1058 with a LUA account. I was force to update to the later version this week now it does not sync with my LUA account but does if I runas Outlook with my Admin account.  Please help

I was recently prompted to upgrade Outlook Connector - so did so, as requested....

...and it has now stopped synchronising with Hotmail.

I get the repeated message "the connection to the server is offline"

Can anybody help - it is driving me mad!! As ever, you can easily waste half a day tryning to remedy annoying problems like these...

The other morning when I opened Office Outlook 2007, I was forced to download and install the latest Outlook Connector. In June, I posted on my blog that my business email wouldn't send or receive until I did so.

Well, after downloading and uninstalling and reinstalling a few times, I still couldn't get my emails. I contacted Microsoft support who got me in touch with Mark Zhang, a support professional with Microsoft who had me do the uninstall, reinstall and new profile runaround.

The results were the same. No business email. (I set it back up as an HTTP mail account so I have Outlook access to it again, for now...)

So I Googled the error message, "Outlook Connector is available only to subscribers." Guess what? Even though the download page states you can access your contacts, calendar and email for free, you can't. Microsoft's Office Outlook blog states you have to "upgrade" your services to do so.

Microsoft, could you please just loop me out of your faulty updates and download pushes so I can concentrate on my business and not on fixing and fussing with your software!

I'm using the latest version of Outlook Connector with Outlook 2003 and XP pro.  It works well for several days and then it starts prompting me for my password upon sign in.  After 3 or so attempts it tells me that sign in failed due to "too many failed sign in attempts."  

So then I go to the Hotmail Live web page and sign in successfully on the 1st attempt with no issue whatsoever.  Once I do that, I can go back to Outlook and connect through the connector with no problems for at least the next 2 days or so before the problem reoccurs.

This seems to be the same issue that Sam M posted on Sep 6, but I couldn't find a response or solution.  Please help.

To clarify my previous post, when the Outlook Connector prompts me for my password it says at the bottom of the box:

"Sign-in failed.  Too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts have been made using an incorrect password.  Your account is temporarily unavailable.  Try again later."

That's when I go to the hotmail live web page and sign in with no problem using the same password.  Once I do that, I can then sign in with no problem using the connector (same password).

What is causing this?  I'm sure that no one is trying to sign in with a bad password otherwise the web sign-in page would tell me the same thing and prompt me to reset my password.  Every 2 or 3 days I have this issue.  Please help.

I have downloaded outlook connector version 12.0.4518.1063 and I am trying to use it with Outlook 2003. When I loaded it the Mail folders all synchronised correctly however the inbox will not update with new mail. I can send mail from outlook but not receive.

This is the case when I also press the send receive button.

I have a Windows Live Hotmail account. I do not pay a subscription.

Information is missing from your Microsoft Passport Network profile. In Calendar, click Options, and then update your personal profile.

Martyn, you likely are missing your first name or your last name in your Windows Live ID account profile.  Here are instructions...

Sign into Windows Live Hotmail via the web at http://mail.live.com and click the dropdown at the top right (there should be your LiveID and a little down arrow).  Then click “View your account”.  Then click “Registered Information” (it’s a link near the top).  Make sure your first and last name are entered and save your changes.  

The connector should then start syncing for you.

is there any way to sync the calendar with my hotmail plus? as seen on many many official hotmail websites, the calendar sync with outlook connector should work if you have hotmail plus! (http://get.live.com/mail/features)

For those receiving "Error in Calendar" messages, I also had this problem and, somehow, was eventually presented with a dialog box that stated "Appointments that you add to this calendar are not synchronized with MSN Calendar.  MSN Calendar synchronization is a subscription only service."

Personally, I couldn't find anywhere that corroborate this message, since Calendar sync isn't even mentioned as a feature for MSN Premium.

I have just downloaded newest version of Outlook Connector (12.0.4518.1063) to add my new hotmail-account to my outlook email accounts.  The problem is, that my other e-mail accounts (GMail connected via POP3) is all downloaded to a local pst-file, but my hotmail account is downloaded to a specific hotmail,pst file. I cannot change the file which it download to using the Tools/Account Settings in Outlook. I am running Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 with Business Contact Manager.

Anyone knows how change this? I want all mails downladed into the same inbox as I use ClearContext to handle all my e-mails incl. follow ups etc.

Skipper, your best bet is to create a rule which copies the mail you receive from your Hotmail account into the inbox ClearContext looks at.  You want to copy, not move, or your mail will be removed from Hotmail as well.

Hello.  Some of you have received the following error,

Error: 4102. Client. Cannot change immutable data: MessageClass.

This is a known issue and we are working on a fix.  In the mean time, to avoid this issue, do not make client-side changes to items (marking items as read/unread, adding categories, flagging items, etc.).  

If you are in this situation, you can either wait for a fix or backup your data to PST by using Outlook's Import/Export wizard, remove your account from Outlook and re-add it back to Outlook.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will have a fix rolled out as soon as possible.

I have been having a lot of trouble with Outlook 2007, first a 4102 error then this 5102 error (see below). There isn't good synchronization between Outlook 2007 and my HoTMaiL Plus account. I tried reinstalling the connector then exporting, deleting, adding, and importing my HoTMaiL messages.
