I have two PCs with a clean install of Vista and Office 2007 - Office 2003 has never been near either of them - and yet both have prompted me to install Office 2003 SP3 via Windows Updates. Even MBSA detected it as a missing update. Why do I need to install an Office 2003 update when I'm using Office 2007?

Why does Windows Update prompt me to install Office 2003 SP3 on a PC with Vista and Office 2007 installed? This has happened to me on two brand new PCs, which have never had Office 2003 anywhere near them.

If you are seeing the Office 2003 SP3 appear on your computer with Office 2007 installed, it's likely you have some component of Office 2003 on your computer without realizing it. In particular, this is usually because something has installed the Office 2003 Web Components. You can either remove this component if you don't need it, or you can install SP3 for the products you have installed.

I just installed SP3 for Office 2003 and when I open up Outlook 2003 and try to Archive my E-mails the Archive option is no longer there. Does anyone know where it was moved to?? I went back to a machine that was not runnning SP3 and archive was right under Files -> Archive. In SP3 it is no longer there. Thanks

i just installed sp3 onto my office 2003, and now i can't even open .xnk file a calindar that i have attach to send to users and manager.. it say that it is block.. what the F*CK.. why freaking ask people to update to sp3 and end up making the software unussable.. CRazy F*ckers

Will the over 16 items selection limitation gonna be fix?

We have a commercial product integrating with the --lovely-- Outlook 2003.

Due to the missing handling of hard-deletion, we have to cook up a very --smarty-- logic to detect them.

Will Outlook team ever gonna make this happened in 2003? like borrow the events BeforeFolderOrItemMove() from 2007?

PS: BTW, the mentioned events are kind of --too sophisticated-- working in 2007. Will the next service pack of 2007 make the events more --healthy-- ?

outlook with SP3 drops almost all Email into the junk folder. This includes email addresses that are in my contacts.

After applying Outlook SP3 our users are no longer able to open files saved in the Outlook Message Format (.msg).

The following message is displayed when trying to open these files:

"The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using"

Our shortcuts are using the /recycle switch.

Some of the chatter on the net links this to Google desktop - but we aren't running Google desktop.

Since we installed SP 3, we can not longer Edit in datasheet any lists on our SPPS 2003 Portal.

Why are you responding to user's issues regarding ""The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using"

SP3 has disabled GFI Faxmaker on our system, and I have found no way to roll back to SP2.

At least acknowledge that SP3 has caused compatibility issues, and pretend that you care!

Frustrated: I want to make sure I understand your scenario. Can you use the EMail link at the top to send us an e-mail so we can get more details about your issue with SP3? In particular, I'd like to know what you mean by your shortcuts are using /recycle. Do you modify what command line Outlook uses to launch .MSG, or are you launching Outlook initially using /recycle and then launching an MSG?

I tried using the email link but no -joy.

We're launching Outlook initially with the /recycle switch.

Since you cannot easily uninstall Office SP3 - I went ahead and un-installed Office 2003 and then re-installed it. After this I was again able to open .msg files.

We presently have a number of users affected by this problem - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help please SP3 is installed and since then I have not been able to use the scanner function on my Brother MFC-5440CN Printer/Scanner/Copier. I have a remote office and MUST scan everthing and send as an email. Need help fast since my boss is less than pleased with this interuption of service

Yikes thought I was glad to get the SP3 update until i found out that i can not use the scanner function on my all in one Brother. Used to be able to scan directly into Outlook, now it comes up with the command line is not valid error. More than 60 percent of what I send is scanned and sent via Outlook This has created a huge problem for me in the last two weeks Any help in correcting this issue??

I fixed my SP3 problem by uninstalling Office, and reinstalling. This is the ONLY way I found to remove SP3. I reinstalled SP2, and disabled Microsoft Update (I switched back to Windows update). I guess I'll have to start looking at Open Office next!

The Outlook with SP3 error breaking faxmaker appears to be that in implementing SP3, microsoft removed the /c cmdline switch from outlook. Faxmaker, and I would guess the scanner referenced above used this switch instead of /a to open outlook with an attachment. I have the same issue on all of my XP machines. I will be refferring it to our Microsoft Rep today.

After installing Office SP3, I can no longer retrieve any emails, either from accounts with my ISP, or remote ones. Internet works just fine, and Outlook worked fine before the SP3 upgrade. I'm on MS Office SE 2003 (11.8169.8172) SP3. Error is 0x80042108. Running Test Account Settings says it cannot lot into the incoming mail server (POP3). Any thoughts on what to try to get this working again, short of a System Restore to a point before the SP3 install? Thanks!

Humm... what do SP3 on our program...

-disabled association with Microsoft Document Imaging file (.mdi)

- unable to scan any document in Office Suite with some scanner (Brother mfc9180 - Oce KM1650 with scan module)

The program seem to scan normaly but at the end, no image inserted....

with another program (Paperport, Omnipage pro) the scan is correct.

Is Microsoft Office not using Twain correctly since SP3 ?

After installing Office 2003 SP3 I am unable to use the scan to functions from my Brother scanner which used to open Outlook automatically. The error that is now received is.... " The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using. " How do we correct this? We are using a Brother MFC-8460N and have downloaded all the recent updates for the drivers & software per the Brother website.

Since the Office 2003 automatic update to sp3 I am contunually getting a promt to Enter Network Password on one of my two POP e-mail accounts in Outlook. Gmail works fine but my work e-mail pops up the promt to type in my user name and password -- with the "Save this password in your password list" option unchecked. I check it and hit OK but it pops right up again...

When you try sending attachments in word and excel you recieve :

Word Couldn't send mail because of Mapi Failure

This would be nice to have in uninstall feature included with these Service Packs. We are now have a number of computers with this problem after the SP3 upgrade.

I also have a problem with Outlook command lines since 2003.

We use shortcuts to open the different folders. Prior to SP3, command lines like the following worked OK:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /folder outlook:calendar /recycle

This now gives the "The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using" error. I've added the /select switch as follows:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /folder /select outlook:calendar /recycle

...but still get the same error. I've found I can use /folder and /recycle on their own, or /select on its own, but not all three together.

This is no good for me. I want shortcuts to open the existing outlook instance to a specific folder. How can I now achieve this?

For all of you having problems with Brother MFC/DCP machines not being able to scan to email, there is an update to ControlCenter called "ControlCenter2 Update Tool" on Brother website. Go to downloads for your model and it will be listed under utilities. It has worked for me.

you have to install the update after downloading it (duh!!) - i had the same issue with the mfc 8460n and the patch to the control center program worked like a charm. Good job, Brother!!!

If I try to FAX a PDF or Word Doc or anything I get this message every time “The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using.” It opens in a small window. I do not or have never installed SP3 for Office.

When I try to use 'mailto:' within an Excel spreadsheet, it won't let me add Attachments with it. It tells me “The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using.” It worked fine with SP2. Is there a way to fix this? Other than going back to SP2.

kc9bpo: This functionality is no longer available through a mailto link. If you need to do that through Outlook, you would need to write an Excel macro that would use the Outlook object model to create a new message and send an attachment.

Command Center 2 software is up to date (so the path did not help) and I get the following error message when trying to install 3: Installed Version of Command Center does not support the update installer.

OK, the way I just fixed. Open the configuration for Email and delete the Microsoft Outlook option. Close Control center, and reopen. Go back in configure for email and you will now see a new Microsoft Outlook 2003 option. Select and scan.

I am geting this error "The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using" also in 2003 SP2.

I am programmatically opening an msg file using ShellExecute(NULL, _T("open"), "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\OFFICE11\\outlook.exe",C:\\Test.msg", NULL, SW_SHOWNORMAL.

The only difference is I am using /open switch here.

I too am getting the the 'Command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using' dialogue when scanning-to-email from my OCE fx3000 MFC using Brother ControlCenter 2 and Outlook SP3.

The upgrade tool doesn't work, as it states 'The update cannot continue because ControlCenter2 is not installed properly. Please reinstall the original ControlCenter2 and run the update installer again.' I have tried to reinstall and re-update to no avail. I can't find any updates specifically for any OCE machines.

My Outlook does not display correct Unicode font (Vietnamese turns into symbols "?") after i upgrade SP2 to SP3. everything else is ok: internet, web mail, word, excel...

the same email with Vietnamese font displays correct on my desktop (SP2) but it does NOT on my laptop. so i guess the XP SP3 is the cause.

do you have any idea or comment to help me out?

I tried the controlcenter2 patch; deleted outlook from the configuration; chose ms outlook 2003 from the configuration and still get the message. Nothing is working and it is quite frustrating.

Don't laugh please. I have Win XP Pro and MS Office 2002. Working fine for a long time. I downloaded SP3 by default, without thinking. Now my Lexmark X4550 scanner mode vanished. I can see the scanner but the scanning screen won't come. When I try to reinstall it, it asks for XP Pro disk. When I provide this CD, it says the files are not there. What do I do? I depend on scanning all the time. Help

We're nearly a whole year on from first introducing SP3 for Office 2003, and certain issues CONTINUE to arise, additional fixes are seemingly NOT forthcoming, and neither are any apologies or explanations. Expectations are NOT being suitably MANAGED here, friends.

I have to admit, Office 2003 SP3 is an EMBARASSING SHAM of an update/upgrade, by many foregone accounts.

(Noticed the many BUGFIXES since (rushed?!) launch??)

I'm trying to help someone resolve an issue with Outlook 2003 (SP2) which inconsistently prompts for a mail account password which, when given, isn't saved.

A help article in YAHOO suggested that, once other remedies were attempted - which did not solve the issue - one should Upgrade Outlook from SP2 to SP3.

LUCKILY(?!), the installation **failed** to even get going due to the Installer's inability to locate a NON-EXISTANT SKU1CA.CAB file associated with Office:SBE (neither on the CD nor in the MSOcache)...

So, what options for the journey from 2003 SP3?

Double back to the slower, bumpier 2003 SP2 B-road?

Or pay a huge toll to join the faster 2007 Turnpike?

Flying OpenSource seems suddenly so much more of an attractive option...
