Pre-conference October 26, 2008
Los Angeles, California

OK, OK. We are delighted to announce the date and location of the next Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC): October 27–30, 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. PDC is the definitive Microsoft event for software developers and architects focused on the future of the Microsoft platform. Mark your calendars and save the date. More information coming soon.

We are currently in the process of rescheduling this fall’s Professional Developer Conference. As the PDC is the definitive developer event focused on the future of the Microsoft platform, we try to align it to be in front of major platform milestones. By this fall, however, upcoming platform technologies including Windows Server 2008, SQL Server code name “Katmai,” Visual Studio code name “Orcas” and Silverlight will already be in developers’ hands and approaching launch, which is where we’ll focus our developer engagement in the near term. We will update this site when we have a new date for the PDC that is better timed with the next wave of platform technologies.

Microsoft will have a presence at several developer events this fall to provide deep technical training on the latest wave of software technologies, including at:

One of the many things that the logistics team is working on is selecting all the various SWAG (Stuff We All Get) items that our conference attendees will receive.  We are starting to review options for the conference bag – and I invite you to help us design the PDC07 conference bag!  You tell me….what kind of bag do you want?  Backpack?  Messenger bag?  What features do you like? Water bottle holder?  Color?  We welcome your suggestions, and will do our best to provide a bag that attendees will be happy to use.

Hello –  The logistic, nuts ‘n’ bolts planning for PDC07 is heating up.  For the first time in PDC history, some of the team members that execute logistics for PDC will actually start blogging about the event planning process – providing updates, posing questions, etc.  I am the overall logistics owner for PDC (this will be my 4th PDC) – and, personally, I am excited to begin directly interacting with you, our conference attendees – and the community at large.  I thank you in advance for your candid feedback, ideas, etc. – and I look forward to seeing you in LA!

The date for PDC07 has been set! Microsoft will hold the next Professional Developers Conference (PDC) on October 2 - 5, 2007 in Los Angeles with two days of pre-conference events on September 30 - October 1. Save the date!  http://msdn.microsoft.com/events/pdc/

PDC is the definitive developer event focused on the future of the Microsoft platform. PDC07 attendees will have the opportunity to access new code, learn about the latest Microsoft product offerings, and hear from Microsoft executives about platform developments.

Check the public PDC site for updates; you can also subscribe to the RSS feed to get updates as they're posted.

See ya in LA!

We’ve noticed that folks are still finding the online breakout sessions to be useful (you can find them here) , so we wanted to let you know about steps taken/soon to be taken to make them available a while longer.

First, as Mike Swanson has noted, we have already extended the hosting arrangement until the end of June. The original plan was for these breakout session videos to be hosted for six months after availability, but we extended that by two months.

Second, we are making arrangements for the files to be available via bulk download, sometime in July. Stay tuned for more info…!

209 breakout sessions, panels, and symposia from PDC05 are now available online. Each session includes video of the presenter, a navigable index of the content, the PowerPoint presentation itself, and video of the demos (many also include downloadable code samples, Visual Studio solutions, or other materials). This content is available online for free, for anyone, for six full months. To download a session for offline viewing, click the Download Presentation link that appears beneath the session information.

All PDC05 attendees will automatically receive this content in DVD form, as part of their conference fee. The packages have recently been shipped and should begin to arrive soon.

You can also order the 4-disc DVD set (attendee price: $199, non-attendee price: $499). As a DVD bonus, we’ve included nearly 4GB of Channel 9 video content that was produced for PDC05.

The PDC05 keynotes are now available for streaming:

Also, you can find breakout session content here.

Thank you!

We’ve created a wiki for attendees to share issues and workarounds they may experience with “The Goods”. Find it on Channel 9 at: http://channel9.msdn.com/wiki/default.aspx/Channel9.PDCTheGoods.

In response to the significant level of interest in FUN 200 "Windows Vista: Taking Advantage of Windows Vista in Your Application", we have moved this presentation to a timeslot where all PDC attendees can see the content – Jim Allchin’s keynote address on the morning of September 13th.  Jim’s keynote will include details on the key new functionality that developers can use to make their applications look great on Windows Vista.  The session schedule will be updated to show a different Windows Vista talk, PRS 223 "Getting Users To Fall In Love With Your Software: 2005 Edition", in place of FUN 200.

We'll see you in LA in  6 days!

With PDC05 less than 2 weeks away you would expect that we would be winding down as we prepare for the trip.  Not the case, actually.  We have some great updates for those of you attending, and those of you who will be watching from home.

  • Bill Gates' and Jim Allchin's keynotes will be broadcast on the Web.  Tune in on the 13th of September to watch it live.
  • The details on the panels and symposia have been released – make sure you plan to attend as many of these as possible to maximize your time at the PDC.
  • Just announced – the Women In Technology panel happening September 13th in room 402AB at 11:45am.  Join us to discuss diversity in the IT industry.
  • BOF update – The submission deadline is extended through Sunday, September 4.  There is still time to propose a session or vote on the sessions you find most interesting

See you at the PDC!

We're putting the final touches on the content, the logistics, everything. A few notes for those of you attending the show - and for those of you following at home:

  • Join Raymond Chen, Steve Lombardi, Brad Abrams, and... a few hundred more Microsoft folks at Ask The Experts (ATE), on Thursday evening, September 15th. Read more about ATE (and other goings-on) here.
  • We are very pleased to announce that Bob Muglia, Senior Vice President of Windows Server Division will host a General Presentation at PDC05, on the morning of Thursday, September 15th.
  • ... finally, we wanted to share more of the Channel 9 Guy's adventures on his Road Trip. What a long strange trip it's been...

See you in LA!

"Why demo your cool application to a few friends, when you can Show Off to hundreds of your peers at the PDC?"

Here’s something new for next month’s PDC: a chance to show off your cool application, tool, tip, technique, or whatever to your developer peers. Put together a short 5-minute-or-less video and submit it for consideration. If your video is selected, it’ll be projected on a big screen at the PDC 2-hour Show Off event. Best of all, even if you can’t attend the PDC, we plan to post the videos to Channel 9 for everyone else to see. Could this lead to fame and fortune? Doubtful. But will it be cool and fun? Absolutely!

To hear more about the Show Off submission guidelines, read this post on Channel 9 or listen to the latest PDC 05 Buzzcast. And even if you can’t attend the PDC, we still welcome your submission.

See you at the PDC!

Thank you for the tremendous response.... we're really excited about meeting all of you in LA for this PDC.

While registration is now closed, we will be maintaining a waitlist. In order to be added to this list please visit this site. For an event of this size there are typically a small number of cancellations and other changes, so some slots do typically become available. Adding yourself to the waitlist does not guarantee that you will be able to register. If space becomes available, the PDC05 Registration Team will contact you with instructions on how to complete your registration. Attendees will be chosen based on the date and time they submit their waitlist request.

Thanks again for your support! See you in LA!

The PDC05 Team

As you may have heard, we're very close to closing registration. If you have been thinking about attending, we recommend that you register as soon as possible!
