January 2009 Area User Group Meetings
Happy New Year everyone! For those that have been fortunate to take some time off over the winter holidays, today is likely the start of the “Great Inbox Dig Out of 2009”. :) I know I’m certainly digging out of mine… with a New Year’s resolution of reaching inbox zero or whatever those productivity methodologies preach. We’ll see if that happens.
The New Year brings a lot of excitement in the local Microsoft community without leaving a moment to waste. The NYPC Visual Basic user group kicks off the year tonight with a session on SharePoint development! The rest of the user group listings are below. However there are two other events you’ll want to attend this month in NYC:
NYC Code Camp III – Saturday 1/10/2009
Code Camps are "grass roots" mini application platform developer conferences, free of charge to attendees and open to presenters of all stripes and experience.
Get ready for another Code Camp NYC, to be held at Microsoft's offices in Midtown Manhattan (1290 Avenue of the Americas between 51st/52nd Streets) on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 from 8am - 6pm. This is an all-day event with refreshments served, including a developer's "power lunch" (pizza and soda).
This event is being supported by Microsoft but driven by the community: user group activists, developer "influentials", and enthusiastic volunteers. For more information, including schedule and registration, visit the NYC Code Camp website at: http://nyc.codecamp.us
MSDN Developer Conference – Tuesday - 1/20/2009
The Microsoft PDC was hosted in October 2008, yet I'm still trying to digest all of the information that came out of that huge event (Windows Azure, Live Services, Windows 7, .NET 4.0, Visual Studio 2010, etc., etc.). If you want to learn more about all of these technologies from a developer perspective, be sure to visit the official PDC Web site. There, you can download or stream all of the keynotes and breakout sessions from the conference. They make for great lunch-time viewing from your desk.
Watching the recordings is useful, but it's not interactive. You can't ask any questions you have that come to mind. On January 20, you have your opportunity to learn about the latest developer technologies coming from Microsoft at the MSDN Developer Conference in New York City. We're bringing the best of the PDC back east! Tell your tech friends and co-workers as they won't want to miss this event. If you can't make it to NYC on January 20, check out one of the other 10 cities the MSDN Developer Conference will be visiting. Register for the New York event (or other cities)here.
