Bad, plastic, oak veneer

I work in one of the older buildings on campus. Dark hallways, everything’s covered in a bad, plastic, oak veneer… it’s totally cheesy... it’s great. About a month ago they came through and replaced the name tags on our doors, with some new, fancy Plexiglas and aluminum thing. I’m staging a peaceful resistance and have replaced it with my own handmade signage.

The worst thing is that I remember when we moved into those offices.

We thought it was SO cool at all the earth tones in the buildings, we didn't realize how DARK it was.

Now I'm in one of the newer buildings and the old ones seem intollarable.

My office progression is 32-43-18-34 in 6 years (wow I'm less than 1/year, that's pretty good!). I hated my days in 18 because of the dark wood and drab colors - 32 and 43 spoiled me. Also, the first floor of 18 is on the same level as the parking garage of 16/17 which just adds insult to injury. I did have a window, but there were 10 foot rhododendrons right outside it, and barely any light could get through them.

Whenever I have to go to a meeting somewhere like 5, I just automatically feel depressed as soon as I walk in the door.

I like your handmade sign. I might do something similar to spice up mine.

Well, Peter beat me to it, but I took some photos too: http://www.tommyblogs.com/PermaLink,guid,ef1f078c-954b-4c20-a698-f56c2782555d.aspx

I don't find Building 5 depressing at all. I was in 30 before this and I much prefer Building 5. I like the feeling of the hallways and the big, dark wood doors.

Tommy's photo shows much better that the letters are made from twigs and other - er - kindling. Peter's photo just looks like the letters are somehow burnt into the wood. To me, at any rate.
