Bloom and HDR tends to increase the contrast between dark and bright areas of the scene, making excessively bright parts of the scene such as a window in a dark room appear more realistic. The window would almost bloom with light and show a sort of glow.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_(shader_effect) for more details.

Cheers.

Given the adoption rate of Vista is next to nill, and even MS has extended support period for XP as nobody is buying Vista.

I have a dual-core 2.6ghz CPU, 4 gigs of DDR2-800 ram and a EvGA 7900GTX card. I admit not state of the art but not to shabby and the FPS even after SP1 is modest at best.

Now addons can slow-down even FS9 but the fact that even med-high settings in FSX using default aircraft is almost a frame killer, getting DX9 right should be the first priority.
