WSS platform momentum and templates

Today, we released information about Windows SharePoint Services momentum in the marketplace, especially as a platform for SIs and ISVs. You can read all about it here:-

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2006/jan06/01-20SharePointServices.mspx

I'm a big believer in WSS as a platform, so its great to see recognition in the article for partners that are building successfully on WSS. I've seen some very interesting solutions built on WSS, but I'm always interested in more. Feel free to comment with a link to an interesting site/solution if you know about one.

Also, if you haven't tried the new templates, there are 30 to download and try out here:-

Personally, I like the 'event coordination' template since my team spends quite a bit of time preparing for events and delivering content at them.

I'm also a believer of WSS power as a common solution plateform. But the provided WSS templates are, for me, only "paint jobs" over the poor actual WSS features : rewamping of the usual lists and doclibs, but no solution to the absence of trimming, the disturbing UI changes between pages and doclibs/list, and so on...

I'm looking hopefully to WSS v3, which seem to solve many problems we had to resolve by custom developpement.

Best Regards,
Jean-Michel

We have been using WSS V.2 as a base platform for all of our companies sharing and collaboration needs.  We have added some 3rd party workflow apps. and we are soo excited about V.3 and the new features it has to offer.
I'm also interested in what Office Live has to offer.  I read that Office Live is built on the WSS V.3 platform, but will hosted Office Live take the place of WSS or is it just a watered down version of WSS?  I'm assuming that we will be able to run WSS V.3 in house, rather than relying on Microsoft to host our application. PJ, can you shed some light on this one?

We launched integration with WSS about a month ago, and have found it really easy to work with.  Our customers are using SharePoint to make shared drives searchable and expose their contents through our product Watson.  Watson then tells users about related content stored in SharePoint while they're working in Office applications.  As an ISV we're pleased with how easy it was to integrate with WSS and broaden our customer reach without any customization.

Hello,

In response to kirkadaues's question about Office Live and hosted WSS.  WSS will of course still be available to those who wish to deploy their own WSS installation on their own servers (like you could in WSS v2).

Office Live will host a WSS site for you if that is what you prefer.

Thanks,
Samer Sawaya (Program Manager - Windows SharePoint Services)

Any chance of a decent editor for non-IE clients? Even pbwiki.com has a cross-browser rich text editor.

I am looking for a solid Issue tracking template for SharePoint 2.0.  Unfortunately, we won't be upgrading to Version 3.0.  Thanks.  hmermes@detma.org
